Here we are again, giving some news on the good ol’ Mr. Danzig. This time, we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of..uh..Danzig. The first album released 30 years ago was a pivotal point in the music industry. We all grew to love the Misfits and Samhain, this time though Danzig came to us with something completely different. Blackest of the black, darker than night, yes this album really did what Mr. Glenn always does and set a new standard for evil. He took punk into a new direction, took postpunk/goth and death rock into a new direction. So he said, “Fuck it, I’m going to use the Danzig name and we are going in this direction now”. Thusly we were gifted the first album, Danzig.

Danzig has retired from the touring life but makes his appearance at random festivals and one-off shows here and there. Just to give a taste of the true lord of darkness that has warmed our hearts. The wonderful part of the Danzig scene is that the bands he has played with him are always vastly different from what you would think would be opening for such an act. This 30th anniversary is no different.

November 3rd, 2018, at the Five Points Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA, Danzig will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first record with a fine list of different acts. Punk Rock legends The Damned, Black metal originators Venom Inc. (bet someone got sued for the name..now they have to put the ” Inc” at the end),O.G. Psychobilly band The Meteors, Thrash Metal band Power Trip, and some band called Mutoid Man(no clue what the hell style they are playing). So as you can tell there is quite an array of musical enjoyment here guaranteed to please anyone.

Hello guys, Horrormadam here to introduce you to a new film that I am really excited about called Dead Air that is still in post-production but will be released later this year. This film is something different and I had the great honor of learning about it from almost everyone involved! First, let’s tell you what it is about:
Set on a plane traveling to a final gig, Dead Air tells the story of Monster Kitten, an all-female punk rock band who end up on a flight with some nasty little creatures with all hell breaking loose at 30,000 feet.

Great name for a band and a great fresh premise! Let me introduce you to who will be answering my questions:
Geoff Harmer the Director (Overtime, Addict, Smile), Peter Hearn the Writer (Smile, Scrawl, Motto). Our Actresses Stacy Hart (Get Real, The Beach) as the drummer, Charlie Bond (Vendetta, Strippers vs Werewolves) as the singer, Johanna Stanton (Nightmare Box, Sinatra: All or Nothing at All) as the guitarist, and Kate Davies Speak (Horizon, Deadman Apocalypse) as the bassist. And our master puppeteers Andrew James Spooner (Muppets Most Wanted, Muppets Treasure Island), Tony Lymboura (Muppets Most Wanted, The Muppets Christmas Carol) and Nicola Buckmaster. And a special appearance by Dave (IMDb finds him to controversial to cover) as The Creature but he reminded me he is an actor, not a puppet.

House of Tortured Souls: Why are you guys fans of the horror genre?
Peter Hearn: I’m a fan of most genres, I like writing horror because I find it fun. I don’t take it too seriously even if others read my work and think it’s really dark. I think the other thing I like about the horror genre is the fans are a loyal bunch. Very supportive. Not saying fans of other film genres aren’t supportive, but I’ve never witnessed a more fan-friendly genre. I mean, look at the Internet and you find x amount of sites dedicated to horror. If you are lucky, you’ll find the odd website dedicated to a comedic film, or a drama or whatever, but not the same rabid fan base you get from the horror community. It always annoys me when people assume you are weird or macabre or sick if you like horror films or books or whatever it may be. I don’t buy into any of that.
Geoff Harmer: I’ve been a huge horror fan for years! I used to work in a video shop, we had all the video nasties behind the counter. I grew up watching stuff like Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Evil Dead, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I then got a subscription to magazines like Fangoria and Gorezone. I can still remember seeing The Thing on pirate video back in 1982 when I was 10 years old! Scared the shit out of me! Haven’t looked back since!

HoTS: What are some of your favorite horror movies?
Charlie Bond: Not a lot of people know this about me, but I’m actually a massive Hammer Horror fan. I love to pop on a gorgeous, sleepy old classic like the beautiful, ethereal Twins Of Evil or one of their many Draculas, curl up under a blanket and lose myself in that dreamy fantasy world of Hammer land. Despite being predominantly a Horror genre actress, I try to watch as much modern horror as I can, too. My top favorites from the last few years are really fun, gory romps – off the top of my head, American Mary, The Babysitter, and The Love Witch have been my favorites for the past few years. That said, I saw Dead Love recently, which stars the monstrously talented James Hamer-Morton, who plays our co-pilot in Dead Air. I was absolutely blown away by both performance and the incredibly complex and sweet story that director Chris Gallagher had created, within a VERY gory horror with absolutely insane SFX. Really worth a watch if you can find it!
Kate Davies Speak: I adore so many horrors but I have my favorites, I actually really love the movie Scream which is more of a homage and parody of several classic horrors but it was such a wonderful blend of teen drama, black humor and some wicked jump scares. The cast was amazing too and big influences for me in my dreams of being an actor. I also love John Carpenter and Stephen King movies; The Thing, Christine, Cujo… Also, some of my favorites slightly more modern horrors are The Descent the all-female cast in that were amazing, Sinister was terrifying (mostly the soundtrack) and recently I’ve enjoyed Hush and Creep (on Netflix).
Johanna Stanton: My two favorites are Don’t Look Now and Rosemary’s Baby.
Stacy Hart: I go for more psychological stuff like Silence Of The Lambs or Eden Lake.

HoTS: I have series celebrating women in film and women in horror so wondering why you went with an all-female punk band?
PH: We didn’t initially – it started off as a mix, but the more we looked at it, the more we reworked the script we realized they had to all be female. As soon as we hit that point in the process we knew we had made the right decision. There were always characters that were female from the word go, others that got rewritten or replaced over time to fit the band. I just really wanted a film that had female characters that weren’t side characters to a hulking male out to save the day. Those days are gone.

HoTS: Why go to the 80s era for the puppets?
GH: It’s not really an 80s flick, but it does heavily influence the look and feel of the film. The puppets weren’t originally in the film to the extent that they are at the moment. They were originally only fleeting glimpses and glowing eyes in the darkness. But Pete twisted my arm with the idea of puppets… and the next thing I knew we were in Wimbledon chatting to these talented students about designing our creatures!
PH: There was no specific ‘this is an 80s movie’ woven into the script. When I first wrote the initial draft, the Creatures were just glowing eyes in a box and a conceit to get us from A – B, as we moved further down the road with it, I mentioned to Geoff that it would be cool if the creatures were actually Muppet-like puppets and he agreed. I had used a puppet in my previous film Scrawl and had always loved puppetry. I told him I knew some Henson puppeteers, well I knew of one as he had recently contacted me on twitter. That was Andrew James Spooner, although we wouldn’t properly speak to him for about a year after this point…not that we didn’t want to, we just felt we would never get someone of his caliber to join us.

HoTS: Writer influences?
PH: For this project? I had a bunch of films in my head: – American Werewolf in London, Deathgasm, Critters, Dead Snow 2, Empire Records, Josie and the Pussycats. Throw a TV ep in with Twilight Zone’s Nightmare at 20000 feet and you have my initial influences. Others came later, but that’s where I started…

HoTS: Director influences?
GH: For me as the Director, Dead Air is heavily influenced by films like From Beyond and Vamp, at least from an aesthetic point of view. I love the look of those films and they reek of 80s horror! I wanted Dead Air to have that same look and feel.

HoTS: Why did Mr. Spooner get into Puppetry and why Dead Air?
Andrew James Spooner: I got into Puppetry and voice work because I’m an introverted performer! I love acting but don’t like being seen on camera. So Puppetry and voice acting are perfect! I grew up in the 70s and was obsessed with Doctor Who, The Muppets and Star Wars. Specifically the puppets in The Muppet Show and the creatures and special effects in Doctor Who and Star Wars. Puppetry brings the worlds of performance and special effects together. In its essence, every shot of a puppet and creature on a TV show IS a special effect. We’re convincing you that this creature/character is alive and breathing.
Why Dead Air? It’s the kind of project that doesn’t come along that often. In an industry that’s so used to using CGI as the tool of choice for films like this, practical effects are seen less and less. So, it’s a chance to play with practical puppet creatures. It also harks back to Horror movies of the 80s, when practical effects were at their prime. Gremlins on a plane! Come on! Who WOULDN’T want to be involved in that!

HoTS: I was so honored to have Dave included in this interview. He is such a legend in the industry. How did Dave like working with everyone?
Dave: “I hated working with all of them! They showed me NO respect on set whatsoever! In between takes, they shoved me in a box that (get this!) HAD NO AIR HOLES! I nearly suffocated in that f**king thing! The girls were fine to work with. But you know what it’s like if you aren’t ‘conventionally’ good looking, they tend to just nod at you and then get back to texting or twittering or whatever the f*ck it is they do. Inspiration? I guess I’d have to say that my biggest influence is Leo Sayer.” “Why are you laughing?”

HoTS: How about Tony and Nicola?
Tony Lymboura: I don’t have an interesting quotable answer for the first part. As for the second part, …cos it looked like so much fun!
Nicola Buckmaster: I hadn’t thought about being a puppeteer at a young age, most likely as I thought they were real! I had a great imagination & believed in everything. I went to the theatre & Cinema a lot, loved sooty & sweep, Emu, the muppets & often saw old Punch & Judy in Covent Garden, so much that the puppeteer knew my name!
I trained as an actor & singer pretty much all my life, it wasn’t until I worked at a theme park that they asked if I would audition for the puppet show, I did, rehearsed for weeks & became a puppeteer! That was 12 years ago, I did 3 seasons there, absolutely loved it learned a lot & auditioned for more puppetry jobs after.
Puppetry has always been in my life. As a kid, I had some puppets & I would play with pens, household objects, give them characters, which I later learned is called object manipulation.
And Why Dead Air? Why not, it’s got everything I love: horror & puppets! And as Andrew said it’s gremlins on a plane (I love gremlins). For me too it was getting to work with like-minded people, learn a lot & work on a film with puppets. Meeting the Dave’s was great too, although one of the Daves tends to text when he’s had a few & I didn’t give him my number…

HoTS: Did you all like working with the puppet actors?
CB: One of the most interesting things about working with puppet actors, is how quickly they can pick up and drop their puppet persona – to the level where you yourself are struggling to keep up with them! One moment you’re chatting away to lovely Andrew James-Spooner with his hand up a fuzzy, toothy puppet and the next moment he’s gone and ‘Dave’ the grouchy, foul-mouthed little demon is in the room. By the end of the shoot, I’d developed close personal relationships with both and consider them both equally fabulous.
KDS: Working with the Dave puppets was a lot of fun for me, it was a first as well. I have worked using green screen and CGI in the past but often find that hard to ‘connect’ with, working with physical puppets was great, they were very cute too but don’t tell them I said that, they start swearing at you when you compliment them lol. Most of my interaction scenes with the puppets involved me smashing seven shades of s*** out of them with my bass guitar…
JS: Yes. The team was amazing. I’d worked with puppets before on the musical Casper the friendly Ghost years ago. So was used to acting alongside puppets.Basically, they are just another cast member. Although I was genuinely freaked out when they were biting my face….ugh..the sound of those teeth sends shivers down my spine.
SH: Working with the puppet team was awesome fun! I didn’t get quite as much chance to act opposite the creatures as a couple of the others; mainly I had furry balls flying at my face and hit them away. Make of that any double entendre you will.

HoTS: What inspired the monsters?
PH: The monsters (the little creatures) were inspired initially by Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and the Sumatran Rat Monkey from Braindead (Dead Alive) with real creatures thrown in for good measure. While Critters and Gremlins were benchmarks for the use of practical puppets, they were never influences on the actual design of the creatures.
We still have our ‘Dave’s’ living in my garage (a bit like Fonzie from Happy Days). They were up on our crowdfunding as potential perks but nobody wanted to give them a home. So they are sleeping on my couch, for now, eating leftovers, playing poker.

HoTS: Saw the girls names were inspired by famous punk rockers. Got Nancy Spungen, Patty Smith, and Debbie Harry, but who is Eve? Possible Eva Destruction?
PH: They were and you are the first person to recognize that! The cast wanted their characters to have names, even if for this concept short they are just named on screen as the Singer, the Drummer etc (somewhere in the back of my mind, Two-Lane Blacktop was influencing this decision)
These will be the names in the feature, as there’s a broader canvas to play on.
Anyway, to circle back to your question, you got the 3 absolutely correct but Eve is actually Eve Libertine from the British punk band Crass from the late 70s.

HoTS: Are you fans of punk and if so what bands?
GH: I went with Punk more for the look than the music, to be honest… but I’m finding a love for the music!
PH: I love loads of different kinds of music. My brother was a massive influence on me growing up as he was into heavy metal and punk and all that stuff. Firstly playing in a band himself and then going to work for a major record retailer for 20 odd years. Punk bands that have always been there for me are ones like the Ramones, early Adam and the Ants, the Sex Pistols, the Misfits, the Runaways, the Clash etc. Mainly punk with a pop edge. Too many to mention.
SH: I do like punk. Being a 90s child, Nirvana was a first love of mine and I was into Green Day. I really like female-fronted stuff like Bikini Kill, and I adore The Distillers; Brody Dalle is a fucking goddess. Right now I’m enjoying some older stuff vicariously as my sons get into it. they have the Ramones and The Ruts on their playlists.
JS: I’m a fan of most styles of music. Having been signed to RCA in a pop group, then gigging around London in a rock band and also throwing a musical theater background in the mix. I’m basically a schizophrenic music fan.
KDS: I have an eclectic musical taste, I admit that I don’t listen to much rock but I would definitely be a fan of ‘Monster Kitten’ if they were a real group…
CB: I’ve definitely got eclectic music tastes. When I was in my teens, I was a little skater punk girl and was wild about quite poppy punk rock bands like Green Day, Less Than Jake, The Offspring, Alkaline Trio, Fenix TX, the Misfits etc. As I got older I actually became quite goth, got very into heavy metal, psychobilly and would jam to Cradle Of Filth, Nightwish, Kittie, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, etc. My favorite band of all time is the now-split The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster – I followed them around for years in my teens!! I’m still a huge Punk Rock fan and have really been enjoying Spotify’s ‘Time Capsule’ feature of late – though it has thrown a few Britney tracks at me that I’ve enjoyed rediscovering, haha!

Argyle Goolsby-Darken Your Door Step

The long awaited Argyle Goolsby album “Darken Your Door Step” Record hits the streets and we are all welcomed by something hard hitting and very much not what I personally expected.
I’ve known Mr. Goolsby for many years of my life, like 16 years to be exact, and always admired his ability to transition between genres. Since the disbanding of Blitzkid, a celebrated band in the scene that really paved way for the hardworking horror punk scene it’s plain to see that Gools hasn’t lost his mastery. This is a very versatile musician and he truly knows his way around any genre from 50’s croon style to thrash metal, and heavy hitting punk rock. His name is a staple in the horror punk community. The release of this album was a showcase to what he is actually capable of.

What I expected honestly was something more digital/synthesized and maybe almost slower and on the death rock side. Not sure why, but that’s what I expected and not at all what I was handed with this record. However what I did expect were songs about movies. Of which is a common thing in the horror punk genre, it’s rare if there is ever a song that isn’t titled or reference to a horror movie somewhere in it.

The opening is a bit confusing, but what intro isn’t? A number called “Midnight Approaches”. Then we get into “The Uninvited” right from the get go it’s heavy, fast and makes you start bobbin’ your head, and you know you want to fist pump in a live environment, odds are you’re doing it while cruisin’ in your car. Slide this right into “Ghost Light Waltz” another banger, that is straight to the point and punk as it gets. Listening to the lyrics, you can automatically tell what movie it’s about (Carnival of Souls). I’m not saying this is a bad thing, just predictable in most of the horror punk world.

I won’t do a track by track analysis you can do that yourself. It’s a pretty solid record, with a lot of catchy songs and they all go together so well that I listened to it 3x in a row and didn’t even realize it. Some say that’s bad, some say that’s good. I personally enjoy an album that can go and go and go. Because you know it’s decent album and the catchy demeanor of it keeps you there no matter how many times you listen to it consecutively. With all this said, check out the record it’s well worth it, and Goolsby showed that he is unstoppable and will carry on his own musical endeavors from the ashes of Blitzkid and keep doing what he’s doing. No matter what though it cannot be denied that this is a solid horror punk record.

CONCERT REVIEW: GHOUL/GWAR RAMS HEAD LIVE 10/26/17

GWAR has been one of my favorite bands for the past 30 years now. Known for playing on or around Halloween in Baltimore I took every opportunity to grab some passes to see them now that I’m back in Maryland after many years of being gone from the area. Rams Head Live in Baltimore was the venue on this Thursday night. A good sized club always brings in big acts and is a pretty cool venue with pretty much not a bad seat( all general admission) in the place. GWAR is one band that to see live is one that I would HAVE to cover for a story. My wife Steff had never seen GWAR before, that alone was almost reason enough to go.

By the time we got there GHOUL was just about to go on stage. GHOUL is a fun mix of GWAR, MENTORS, MISFITS with a touch of MOTORHEAD! Keeping in touch with the Halloween spirit with a horror punk sound. I don’t think Gwar could have found a better band to hit the road with. Both lyrically and their stage presence oozes horror. As for starters, if your not familiar with GHOUL, they all wear burlap sack, masks with bloody mouths, have stage actors that they behead and spray blood out on to the crowd and sing of death and graveyards while they have the look of just committed a nasty home invasion. GHOUL ARE  FUCKING AWESOME!! What a great live act and a great bunch of guys as I was fortunate enough to have run into a few of them after the show.

                                           

Finally,…after a bit of a wait from what seemed to have been some technical issues, GWAR makes their way to the stage. By this time the crowd had started to fill up, sadly it wasn’t to overly packed, but then again it was a Thursday ….and the general age of the crowd…well, we aren’t as young as we once were. GWAR come out on stage and its always something new, every tour. The stage show is creative, overwhelming at times, oh..and bloody violent. Kind of makes you feel like your mixing a Lloyd Kaufman film to shock rock extreme music, in one live nightmare!

This was my first time having seen GWAR since the passing of the late great ODERUS URUNGUS, it was hard waiting to hear some of the old classics, and yet only one was done, Black and Huge. It was actually kind of nice that the band left it alone. Regardless, the stage show over the top as always, and for the club only charging $20.00 tickets, makes you wonder how these guys are making a penny because they really do put a lot into it!

Of course, they always touch on a few big media items such as government and religion, that the boys are always more than welcome to slay and befoul on stage and spray gallons of blood and other bodily fluids on to the audience. From a decapitated priest to Blothar ejaculating on the crowd, it was a wet floor, to say the least!

   

 

It was the same day as the show that the heart-wrenching news surfaced about guitarist Michael Derks, best known to the world as Balsac the Jaws of Death. I had noticed from the get go that he wasn’t on stage. So, just kind of assumed that with the recent medical news that maybe he had decided to take the rest of the tour off…I was wrong. It must have been the third song that Balsac made his stage presence, and what a crowd response he was given, and seemed as if he really played his heart out that night.

                                                      
GWAR played for over an hour and a half. For these aging gentlemen, those costumes, props, lighting, stage theatrics and pure energy, I’ve got to give them credit cause most of the people in the crowd were winded. The last song came around, and how suiting, it was a cover of AC/DC’s If You Want Blood. Not only did they do a great job of the song, they also did a great job of making a complete mess of the venue and everyone that was in it! If you were one of the fortunate ones who hadn’t got spewed or gutted on, you were about to! I honestly don’t think there was a dry place in the club by the end of the song.

As I mentioned earlier, my wife had never seen GWAR before. When they came on stage she and I got split up, I went up to the stage to take photo’s and she went front and center stage in the crowd with old friend of mine who catches them every time they roll into town with his daughter no less. So the band exited the stage, house lights came on, ..and they were, the three of them, all blue and red and I do mean from head to toe soaked in stage spray! The smile on my wife’s face was priceless, she had been GWAR’d!!

GHOUL and GWAR thank you both for the passes and thank you both for such a great show, you guys are the goods!!

I’m going to run through five albums to put you in the Halloween spirit. We all love music, and we all have stuff we are used to. I’m always on the hunt for something new and fresh, so let me help you out this Halloween season. You cannot go wrong with my Top 5 Albums That Scream HALLOWEEN when listened to any time of the year.

Misfits — Collection 2: This one in particular because A) It’s got the song “Halloween” on the album. It’s the original incarnation of the Misfits and a staple in any horror fans collection.Misfits_-_Collection_II_cover / Fair use doctrine.

Mister Monster — Over Your Dead Body: This album is so fucking good. The whole vibe of the record gives you a cold chill and makes you want to just sit by a campfire to warm up while crooning your way into your partner’s pants.Mister Monster-Over Your Dead Body / Fair use doctrine.
AFI — All Hallow’s EP and Black Sails in the Sunset EP: There was a time when AFI was absolutely amazing and these two albums... (I’m using two here because there are only 4 tracks on the All Hallow’s EP.) These two albums set a nice relaxed vibe that always, for some reason, get me thinking about walking around, kicking leaves, and enjoying the cool air. The song “Fall Children” on All Hallow’s EP is, by far, my favorite Halloween song ever written.AFI-AllHallow's and Black Sails / Fair use doctrine.
Silent Horror — Self Titled: This is a record that is from start to finish spooky and fun and screams horror and Halloween all the way through. I put this next to Mister Monster’s OYDB as one of the best horror punk records ever.Silent Horror - Self Titled / Fair use doctrine.
The Spook — Some Like It Dead: A band from the land of Germany. The Spook is another horror punk band that not only needs to be listened to, also needs to be understood. This album gives you the feeling of horror and Halloween – from the super scary factor right down to the whimsy and fun of Halloween. What can be said about the mastermind who brought us the genre that merged from the early punk days, creating its very own world of mastery? Today we wish a very happy birthday to the man who, with his merry band of, dare I say...Misfits, spawned not only the subgenre of Horror punk, which lead way to many great bands over the years, but which also gave the metal world something to be desired.
June 23rd 1955 - 62 years ago - the legend was born in to this world. The parents of Glenn Anzalone probably had no clue that they had just opened Pandora’s box of inspiration and gave birth to the future leader of the underground.
It’s no secret that Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig have inspired many legendary bands and artists over the years. Not only did they inspire such bands as Metallica, Rob Zombie, and Pantera, they also influenced punk rock and hardcore acts such as No Use for a Name, Sick of it All, Hatebreed. and many, many more. The horror punk genre spun out of control causing a worldwide wave of bands such as Mister Monster, Blitzkid, The Crypt Keeper 5, The Other, Crimson Ghosts, The Spook, and countless others in the genre. It’s safe to say that the extent of Glenn Danzig’s legacy reaches far beyond any one genre as well as an outreach that has inspired people all around the world to either write music, stories, or make movies with some piece of Danzig’s legacy in mind while doing so.
The Danzig legacy doesn’t only affect the bands Glenn himself has been a part of, but, as mentioned above, has brought to the mainstream many popular punk and metal acts. Over the past 40 years, the world of underground metal, punk, and hardcore has evolved to where we can go anywhere - be it a local show full of preteens and novice musicians or a well known hardcore/Metal show, you’ll see someone representing either a shirt, patch, or cover song. It’s the norm these days to either have a Misfits or Danzig tattoo. It’s normal for even pop punk bands to cover “All Murder, All Guts…”, and it’s normal for anyone to sing along to “Mother” even if they don’t know who it is.
For someone who’s seemingly unknown to the pop scene, Glenn Danzig was brought to us 62 years ago and, believe it or not, you know this man and you’ve listened to his legacy. You may not have heard his music personally, but in the wake of his inspirational fury, you’ve heard Danzig-influenced music and you’ve showed him love by representing the countless bands he has inspired over the last 40 years.
So on this day June 23rd, do what you do, and show some respect for the man that brought you your favorite bands, the man who saw angry teens bitching about being teenagers and playing loud annoying power chords and said, “Ya know what? I’m going to write a song about Return of the Fly. I’m going to write another about Halloween. Why? Because I’m Motherfucking Glenn Danzig, that’s why!” The world would be a far different place without this genius of a man. So, Mr. Glenn Danzig, here’s to you, brother! Happy Birthday, from the whole world, that you helped create.

EXCLUSIVE: Misfits: More Shows Possible

header-misfit / Fair use doctrine.Here's a quickie for the world of Horror Punk, Punk and Metal. I have been seeing around the nets that Mr. Glenn Danzig himself is not ruling out the idea of some more Misfits shows in the future. With a new Danzig album out that's very reminiscent of DANZIG II: Lucifige, he's kinda got a fifteenth wind and really giving off a vibe like he's ready for some more action. Not a whole lot mind you; no tours for Danzig or the Misfits. Play the show, fly back home kind of deal. So what does this entail exactly? Well, in his words to Rolling Stone magazine:
"I'm open to possibly doing some more shows. I don't want to tour, but if it happens and everything lines up properly, I would imagine there'd probably be a couple more shows. I don't know when, but I'll keep an open mind."
To follow this, you could almost feel him smile when he looked back on the old days of punk rock. Being not only a music fan, but musician it was very easy to relate to these comments. Not only on what he said about punk rock, but the music of today.
"No, we've all been doing this for a long time. It's really funny. I remember when punk bands first started, you couldn't get anybody to be in a punk band because they hated it. There was the whole thing that punk musicians couldn't play. And I listen to stuff we do, and I listen to this crap that's out now, and it's like, they can't even play their instruments. They just go up there and pretend, like, Milli Vanilli–style, and they get paid. Wait ... Milli Vanilli got kicked out of the music industry for doing this, and there's even metal bands doing it. But bands go up onstage and it's all on tape. They're not even performing. If I paid money to go to a concert, and the band was up there puppet-showing it, I would be so fucking pissed off. So anyway, there's my comment on that."
So although he's willing, it won't be a tour so create some sort of savings plan now, and possibly take out a second and/or 3rd mortgage. Travel will be imminent and if it's a festival of some sort $$$$$$$ will be needed. After seeing the reunion last September in Chicago I can say it was worth EVERY GOD DAMN PENNY! If any of this reigns true, you'll want to see this I swear to Vincent Price you will not want to miss such a spectacle.

Sometime in the latter half of 2015, I was first introduced to the Martian rock monsters Ratbatspider. Hailing from the angry red planet but currently residing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this horror punk outfit blends the obvious standard scene influences of The Misfits, Glenn Danzig, etc., with a heavier, more metal-influenced style that’s rare to see with bands who identify as Horror Punk. The four piece machine features vocalist Ryan Remains, bassist Chris Rat, guitarist Jack Bat, and drummer Doug Spider. The first impression this band made on me was in form of their 2014 release, Night of the Sharksquatch. The album cover shows a hulking Sasquatch with a shark’s head superimposed on it. Between the cover art, album title, and band name, I had no idea what to expect from the group and went in with zero expectations.
From the start of the album, it was obvious this was a group willing to pave their own way in a genre over-saturated with copy artists trying to emulate groups that came before them. The first track “...And I'm All Out Of Bubblegum” opens with the Rodney Piper quip from They Live where he threatens the alien invaders and then tears right into the music. Front man, Ryan Remains’ aggressive vocal track soars to drummer Doug Spider’s blasting beat as he shouts about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The track ends with a shotgun blast before the album’s second song, “Inward Skeleton”, begins. The group slows down slightly for this track and falls into a tighter groove while Remains demonstrates his capable vocal abilities as he jumps back and forth between a croon and shouting.
The third track is the disc’s longest play, coming in at 3:13. “Last One Out Close The Coffin Lid” has the characters playing a game of Russian roulette. Chris Rat’s bass line prominently carries this track as Remains barks the lyrics like, “one is six chance I’ll wind up dead, paint the room with insides of my head”. Overall, this was my favorite listen on the album. The fourth track “Dead Girls Don’t Say No” starts with Jack Bat playing a thrash-style introduction before Doug Spider starts in with another breakneck pace drum beat. This track showcases the groups plethora of influences as collectively they sound like something straight out the late 80s thrash metal scene. The band works at double time as Remains’ vocals change shape again into a more powerful howl.
The album closes with the title track, “Night of the Sharksquatch” a powerful and heavy closer centered around a Kaiju-style beast created when toxic waste fuses the infamous Sasquatch and a shark together. The light-hearted song premise shows a band that can have fun and still write incredible, gripping, and powerful music. Ratbatspider has proven time and again on each of their more current releases that they are a band with confidence in the direction they are going and the raw talent to get them there.

The HOPE compilation is a compilation put out by Optimist/Pessimist (O/P) records to raise awareness and funding for Planned Parenthood. O/P is a label hell bent on raising awareness and funds for charities and organizations. Doing an impressive job so far with They're Not the Last, a tribute to Minor Threat for which the proceeds all went to the American Cancer Society, and Edge for Autism, an all straight edge compilation in which all proceeds went toward the awareness and education of autism.
Optimist/Pessimist records is trying to make a staple on the world through positive movements and music. The HOPE compilation is put together consisting of an impressive 36 different bands and solo artists. With a genre range from HipHop/Rap, Punk, Horror Punk, Hardcore, Surf, Gothabilly and Metal. MUSIC REVIEW: Calabrese – Lust for Sacrilege (2015)

Over the years since I first started listening to Calabrese, I thought they couldn’t get any better. Their E.P. Midnight Spookshow (way back on MP3.com) made me fall in love with this band. They were campy, fun, and cartoonish with some hard-hitting yet almost poppy rhythms that really brought something different to the scene at the time. Then 13 Halloweens comes out with the same flavor, and you could tell it’s a great band that would – and has – just kept getting better. So, skipping past the rest of the albums to the latest, which I’m going to talk about here, I’ll say those first two defined them with some of us in the early 2000s punk rock scene.

The following Calabrese expressed a lot of growth and experience from this band of three brothers. I just finally had a chance to listen to the latest record, Lust for Sacrilege, and it is definitely a solid, one hundred percent different feel from where they were until now.

The talent in the music is very present in this album. It’s slower than the previous albums, however, as after 13 Halloweens they did kind of slow it down and evolve into more adult-themed with their brand of horror rock. Lust for Sacrilege is an album that I would put in a category with bands like Sisters of Mercy and The Cult – the super dark death rock that is great to listen to and just admire the marksmanship of the lyrics, harmonies, and music that really shows what kind of band can come from the land of campy cartoons to the big screen adulthood of rock n’ roll.

I would not classify this album as Horror Punk because, like horror, there are many subgenres. In the beginning, Calabrese got straight to the point with songs like “Blood in my Eyes”, “Midnight Spook Show”, and “Backseat of my Hearse”. Moving on to the albums III-Touch of Death and Born of the Scorpions Touch, we saw that their style was evolving – maturing. Lust for Sacrilege is the ultimate mature album for a truly talented band that is strong in everything they do that each song glides smoothly from one to the other.

The album opens with “The Dark Is Who I Am”, and, man, you CANNOT get a better opening song than this as it really sets the tone for the rest of the album. It’s a bit slow and different from the Calabrese signature sound they started with. It really sets the dark tone of the album. The following tracks are a little harder and faster as they move on to “Teenage Crimewave”, which showcases some of that old-school Calabrese guitar riffs and driving tempo. Still, it’s not campy and is very lyrically pleasing, a solid song from start to finish that serves as a great throwback number for them musically. The rest of the album, like I said, has some really heavy vibes of The Cult, which is a fantastic band to be compared to. “Wanted Man” is probably one of my favorite songs on the album. When I first heard it, I could practically feel it actually resonating through the speakers. In short, the whole song gives off a vibe that is just amazing and needs to be felt not heard. Some slower songs on the album, such as “Serpent Flame” and “Drift into Dust, I couldn’t really get into. I don’t mind slow songs but these just didn’t do it for me, and I skip over them. On the other hand, you, the reader, may prefer such numbers. The beauty of music is there’s always something for everyone. This album exemplifies that.

For a band that came from some punk rock, campy, horror roots, Calabrese evolved and transformed their signature sound to create something marvelous with Lust for Sacrilege , a solid album with something for everyone and really keeps you listening. I highly recommend this album, and, while you’re at it, please show Calabrese some love and pick up their other albums as well. If you have a chance to see them live, let me assure you that you should. Calabrese is something you will want to experience live, and you will not be disappointed – I promise you that.

Horror Punk is a genre that many in the punk rock world will overlook and say, “Oh, they’re just trying to sound like the Misfits.” Coming from the heart of my being, I can say that this is not true. Yes, there are many who try. Much like any genre of music, you will have such seminal acts come around and these bands will mimic their influences heavily. However, this compilation and the compilations previous to it have proven to give the Horror Punk world a new face and a new life.

If you’re just getting into the genre, this and the previous Music of Horror-Punks.net compilations are where to start. You’ll find some acts that are well known as well as some that some of us have not heard of yet. The Horror Punk world is vast with many styles, due to the many influences from punk and metal. So now let’s break down a few of my favorite songs off of this particular album and then you’re free to download from the link that will be provided at the end of this. It’s a name-your-price type deal which is awesome for those of us on the comp, but if you wanna help out the horror-punks.net site throw a few bucks towards it. Trust me this compilation is worth every penny you put into it. Without further ado..I give to you 21 songs from the 62 track record.

Guitar iconBishop Lake – “Make You Mine”: A heavy rock and roll sound with the classic love song for stalker type quality. This song tells a story, with melodies and harmonizing that is true to the horror rock sound. This is a powerful piece that depending how you feel about someone could really work as a love song toward someone you’re stalking.

Guitar iconBloodthirsters – “Psycho City”: Campy, fun psychobilly sounding song. If you want to crawl yourself out of your grave and dance sock hop style, this one is the song for it.

Guitar iconCyclotrode X – “Killing Time”: Where Horror Punk bands pull influence from is all over the spectrum. Here’s a band with a song that really mixes it. You can hear some heavy Stooges influence as well as hints of The Exploited and some other street punk style. With a real classic sound that any one into punk rock can get down with.

Guitar iconDead End Lane – “Cat Fight”: Holy Hell! When I turned this song on, I knew it was time to get down and slam dance old school style. That’s right, this monster of a song really gritty and true to the head-climbing, stage-diving old school circle pit punk rock. This particular song is most definitely one of my favorites on the comp. A lot of what Horror Punk is about also is being all inclusive. Female vocals and female musicians are always welcomed and common here. This song really shows that off with gusto.

Guitar iconDeathwood – “Number 85”: Sing-A-Long hardcore is what I’m going to call this, an anthemesque tone with a vocalist that sounds an awful lot like Bruce Dickinson, just a splash grittier but still very impactful. Another song and band I believe everyone should be listening to. The harmonizing gang vocals really pack a punch here, as well as the music being flawlessly beautiful. You will listen and get chills, I promise you that.

Guitar iconDr. Hell – “Poison Cabinet”: I’ve been listening to this band for a while - true Horror Punks right here. Keeping to the classic punk rock sound, adding the horror flavor lyrically and visually, this is another band keeping the female musicianship in the game. Once these backups hit you’ll be like, “Oh Hell yes!” Every song they have is a hit to me. I’m glad to see them on this compilation.

Guitar iconFear Incorporated – “The Boogey Man”: This is a song, something you could really play during a Halloween mixer or in a haunted attraction and creep the hell out of people. It’s very synth-sounding and has a lot of spooky overtones and reverb that definitely is worthy of a creepy good time. On a regular basis it’s not my cup of tea, but it’s perfect for a party situation for sure.

Guitar iconGenki Genki Panic – “Two Girls One Casket”: SURF ROCK! There is nothing better than surf rock that adds horror elements. This song really had me going the whole time with no vocals, just guitar, bass, and drums. It’s a solid, reverbed surf rock number.

Guitar iconGhoultown – “I Spit on Your Grave”: Ghoultown has always been a staple in my personal collection. I forget exactly what they call their blend of cowboy horror, but I can say this old west meets slasher movie mix is amazing. This particular song is a great introduction to this band if you’ve never heard them. To add to it if you ever get a chance to see this band live, then I highly recommend you do so.

Guitar iconHaiduk – “Azyr”: This one threw me off a lot. It’s the music of Horror-Punks.net yes so there’s a lot of variety. However, thrashy death metal I was not expecting. Fast, precise, technical, brutal this is definitely an artist worth checking out if you’re really into the metal world.

Guitar iconJasonxVoorhees – “WYFSM”: Horror, Straight Edge, Hardcore. These dudes are the coolest; I’ve been friends with these guys for a while. We have done a few compilations together musically for charities, and these cats are solid good-hearted fellas for sure. This song really showcases their hard-hitting sound mixing Hardcore, Metal, and Horror to make music that is definitely worthy of listening to. You’ll really feel this band, claiming their own subcategory of all of this calling it Horror Edge!

Guitar iconJess-O-Lantern – “Corpse Revival”: More of this female flavored Horror Rock! I love this for sure. It’s upbeat, bob your head, dance around type horror rock. If you’re a fan of music at all, this is what you need to hear. I went through the Internet and found more of Jess O Lantern, and I can say it’s a solid experience.

Guitar iconMarquis DeBlood – “Death Knocks Three Times”: Woooo! This is dude has been on the scene forever with some different projects, and this, by far, is my favorite. I could listen to this song over and over and never get tired of it. There is not a single word in the whole thing, just symphonic, creepy, horrifying greatness!

Guitar iconMutant Reavers – “Blood Magic”: This band has more of that classic horror sound. With a voice that resembles early Danzig (or Samhain, if you will). Musically, if played in a live performance, I can see a crowd erupting with some old school pogo dancing and then throw down circle pit. They have a good mix in this one song, a very enjoyable band to listen to.

Guitar iconOthers – “Heart of Darkness (Tales of Dracula)”: If you’re into symphonic music with BEAUTIFUL female vocals, this is that song! Listen to this band as a whole. It’s another one I’ve been listening to for many years and even did art for them years ago. To be introduced to this band with this song is ideal. I’ve probably listened to it 9 times in a row just to soak it all in.

Guitar iconPoison Anthem – “Choke and Die”: Okay, I’ll say it again and you’ve probably figured out that I love female vocals in this particular subgenre especially. This song is amazing and another top favorite on this record. This band is front to back just solid. If you want punk rock, this is it right here. If any song gets listened to first, make it this one.

Guitar iconScanner – “Just Like Bela”: This song is a little hard to describe really. Reverby vocals and a great rock n’ roll sound coming from it. With a catchy hook, I can’t really stop listening to it. So just listen and like it.

Guitar iconScarecrow – “Horror of the Beach Party”: Another catchy tune with a super catchy sing along vibe. Imagine, if you will, Dropkick Murphys but as a Horror Punk band. This would be that band, and I checked their other songs out and they should easily be right up there on the best of the best list.

Guitar iconxSchockx – “Bloodbath Orgy”: Okay, I can’t review myself, but I have to give an honorable mention to my music. I don’t say band because it’s all just me creating what I call “HardGore” music. About the song: It is based on a couple that get pleasure from murdering people then having relations over their bodies. Sorry for the PG rating of the description.

Guitar iconSlavething – “Queen of the Dead”: HORROR PUNK 100%. Melodic, Upbeat, Great to grab a girl/guy and just start dancing to. The sound these cats put off is exactly what Horror Punk is about.

Guitar iconThe Casket Creatures – “Spirit of Vengeance”: Punk rock at its finest - harmonizing vocals that really stand out, and guitar work that is so solid you can just feel it. This one is in my top 3 for sure on the whole record, clean and crisp and Horror Punk gold.

Guitar iconVoice of Doom – “Dead Things”: Some of that Samhain flavor of Horror Punk rock goodness. An enjoyable sound that gets your head banging, then the infamous Danzig style: slow down, then speed up. It’s some good stuff for sure. Zombies, blood, and guts. Can’t beat it!

So there you have it kids. The Music of Horror-Punks.net Vol. IIII is a great record all the way through, and these are just some of my favorites from the over 62 track compilation. Each artist brings something different to the table, giving an idea that not all Horror Punk is “whoa” and horror movie references; it’s actually filled with diversity and talent. For about 17 years now, Mister Monster has been a staple in the Horror Punk fan's collection. Well, to those of us who have been fortunate to hear the best horror punk album ever written. Some of the newer guys and girls to the scene have stated they do not know who Mister Monster is or what they're about. For those who may not have heard the album Over Your Dead Body, here's a little song by song write up on an album that changed the way a lot of us looked at the genre of Horror Punk.

With Over Your Dead Body, released March 19, 2001, the New Jersey-based Mister Monster set a new standard with a subdivision of Horror Punk called Boo Wop. OYDB had been anticipated for a few years and prior to its release a handful of demos and singles were released. OYDB showed people what the band was about, introduced the Boo Wop sound and style, and highlighted the outstanding musicianship of the band.

The album album opens with a track called "Weird NJ", a news report about different females named Anna or Annie around the New Jersey area who have been killed, describing in detail the different fictional (or were they?) murders and cannibalistic rituals involved. They then slide into the song "Over Your Dead Body", which alone set the standard that could have carried this band for another two decades. This song is simply the best written song from start to finish. Full of murder, love, and necrophilia, this song really gets you amped for the whole record. While not every song is as masterful as this one, it certainly sets the standard and showcased what Mister Monster was capable of.

Following this amazing opening is "Guaranteed to Bleed" which we can tell by listening has that Boo Wop sound, a nice mixture of 50s/60s doo wop and modern day punk rock. It really gave way to a sound that wasn't present in any band at the time or before. Following this was "Love Thornz" and "This Night I Call Bad Luck", two songs that I've heard some say represent their lives. "This Night I Call Bad Luck" really when you put this on you're thinking, 'Yes, Jsin, I totally feel ya, bro'. With its catchy hook, and relateable lyrics that aren't precisely horror, it's still fitting for the genre and gives us a look into the mind of Jsin Trioxin and how he sees things outside of the horror field.

Track 6, "'Til the End", is by far my favorite song on the album. This track that really gets down to business musically and with such artistry that the music pulls you in and the lyrics right away give you chills. Go ahead and listen. I promise you, this one will change the way you see things, putting images in your head instantly of what is playing out in the lyrics. It's a beautiful song that is in a classification all on its own.

From here it goes into "Murder 4 Hire", a song that is very dirty in nature, evident from the end of "'Til the End", which acts as an intro to "Murder 4 Hire". "One, two, three or four..would you like any more of my blood stained fingers inside....you". Then it goes into this completely necrophilia-driven song. And if you're REALLY into horror, use it as a get your girl in the mood song instead of something like Marvin Gaye or any other Barry White type love song. This one will do it for the punkers and metal heads. The album carries on with "Bigger Shop of Horrors" and then "Prom Night".

"Prom Night" was the first song I heard from Mister Monster when it was still a demo. Let me say Boo Wop definitely is what this song defines. Paying homage to the story Carrie, "Prom Night" brings a really classic rock n' roll vibe and makes you want to grab a girl and sock hop dance. It's such a great track that it makes you feel like you're in the song. After this is "Amy Sue", and I've had many arguments with people over this song. Personally, I don't like it. Too slow for my taste, and I could never get into it at all; however, others would say it's the best song on the record. "Teenaged Dreams" and "Tina and Freddy" follow "Amy Sue" making up for the slower vibe. "Tina and Freddy" another Return of the Living Dead reference, is very fast and almost metal in style and is for sure a head banger. Getting further into the album, "Little Frankenstein" goes back to the Boo Wop style and sucks you back in to that genre created by this band. Next is "Her Open Grave", another slower piece I usually skip because, well, I just do. I've heard it a few hundred times but still can't get into the style that it is. Some of you may feel differently, and that's cool as well.

"Gore Whore" on the other hand, which is homage to Trash from Return of the Living Dead, rocks. Something that really gets you with music is not always being able to understand the singer, so when you listen to this one and hear, "She likes to bat fuck...she's my little gore whore". You won't hear bat. So, have a chuckle at this one, a lot of us have for years. It's a solid song with a heavy overtone and is great for anyone with a dirty mind and love of zombies. Then it goes right into "Resident Evil" another metal style piece; extra fast but crooner style vocals really make this song something to remember and get stuck in your head for years.

"Dead Flesh Gurl", another necrophilia driven song, is slower but still a decent listen. Next it goes into "Transylvania Mania", something completely different. This song is that. I remember listening to a radio interview with Jsin Trioxin in which he stated he and Myke Hideous were drinking one night and laid the vocals for this one. It's not really singing at all, just random spooky nonsense.

Finally, they end the album with "Send More Paramedics". What do you know? Another Return of the Living Dead reference; however, it has nothing to do with the movie. This is a ghostly tale of sorts and pretty much a love song that is another favorite of mine on the album.

This album is solid from start to finish (evidenced by the the fact I have had 18 copies of the album and that this is the first thing I mention when anyone asks what I'm into). Lyrically, it's a magical piece. I remember a conversation I had with Jsin one night when he was playing guitar for Blitzkid and the band I was in played with them that night. I asked about a particular lyric and what it meant he said, "You take away from it what you think it means". So, unless it's a blatant reference, you will have to figure it out for yourself. Musically, this is the best album period. Hands down. No matter what genre you're into, if you're a true music fan, this is the album for you. Punk, horror, rock'n'roll, metal... this album has every bit of it blended perfectly in 19 tracks.

Some of us fans have been waiting for years to finally hear new music, and all we have been given are singles here and there and word on the street that is there is another album being made. When it is released, I'll be all over it. I can say, though, topping this album is pretty impossible. I listen to many genres and many different bands, and this one has been my favorite for a very long time. This album is number 1 on my list. Throughout life, we all have the need to see a band that made us who we are today. Music comes to us, and speaks to something deep inside every person. No matter whom it is or what kind of music it is, music speaks to us and, I dare say, is a necessity of life in order to survive.

Some of the bands we go through in our lives stick to our souls and yet there is no chance of seeing a live performance, bands like Queen with a front man as inspirational, charismatic and amazing as Freddie Mercury. Some of us never had the pleasure and honor to see him perform with a band that changed the standard of music. That's just one example of thousands, and most of us who can bounce between genres, we also have home where we go to.

For me, home is Horror Punk and although some would say it pales in comparison to bands that can't be classified like Queen. It is still where my heart and soul have been for many years. This genre was made famous by a small little band we now know as the MISFITS, a band that has a legacy that has been undeniable for decades. So when I got the email from the Riotfest.org mailing list that was nothing more than a picture of the iconic Crimson Ghost that stated ORIGINAL MISFITS LINE UP, I may have felt my heart sink. Tears flooded my eyes, and I literally screamed. Laugh if you must, but I totally did scream in the middle of a grocery store. Looked at the email on my phone and emotion flooded me. It was like finally having a dream come true - a phrase that is often used but rarely true. We have all been hearing for over 30 years "It will never happen!" Well, it was happening, and the skeptics came out in droves to instantly try to disprove this and call it a hoax. There was not a care in the world on my end of it, I logged on right way and dropped a healthy chunk of money to purchase tickets.

One thing I know is the music industry, not the lives of the people but the industry itself, so I figured of course there had to have been a solid contract in place. So I wasn't worried like many others were, stating their past beef ruining the reunion. Now, enough of that, let's break down the show.

It was a long three days of Riot Fest in Chicago. I spent the months prior awaiting the three day festival. Of course, being into punk and metal, I attended the whole three day event, eagerly anticipating Sunday and the opportunity to witness a band that created a genre that had influenced some of the biggest names in the music world.

The energy was intense with 50,000+ people in attendance. For us into the underground music scene, most shows have maybe 500 people tops. This was the most intense experience, the stage garnished with two giant sized jack-o-lanterns from the Halloween EP cover in and, of course, numerous crimson ghosts all over the place. So once the band took stage, the audience erupted into cheers and applause and other audience noises that nearly broke the sound barrier! Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitar, Acey Slade (Murderdolls, Dope, Trashlight Vision and more) on second guitar, Jerry Only on bass, Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Fantomas, Suicidal Tendencies, and more) on drums and of course the almighty Glenn Danzig on vocals.

Opening up the show with "Death Comes Ripping" - a powerful way to start off the set in my opinion, the earth shook once that first beat from Mr. Lombardo's drum intro hit. And I'm not exaggerating. The ground literally was shaking, and it was pure amazement. There was a lot going on, from the stage with the lights and screens to the crowd moving like waves; it was the time we all were waiting for and damn did it hit hard.

Some have said that Glenn sounds great, but you couldn't hear him over everyone else singing along to every single song, so I don't know what they could have been hearing honestly. The performance as a whole was very energetic and very unexpected, with all of them running about like they were 17 again and taking over the stage like kids on a play ground. This was unexpected only because the Misfits original members are a bit aged. There had been a lot of speculation from super elite fans that the performance was going to lack. However, just look at the shape they are in; there was no way it was going to be what was predicted all over the Internet. And I'm sure the energy from the insane amount of people in attendance really fueled the energy they put off. Their overall performance really was like seeing a band of younger cats doing what needs to be done to put on the best show. I have seen HUNDREDS of concerts in my time, and I can confidently say that the way they owned the stage was right up there with the hype and energy of bands like Suicidal Tendencies, AFI, Terror and other high energy bands.

The band slid effortlessly from song to song, each one an obvious classic. The vibe never drowned, and endless flashing designs played on the screen on the back of the stage. You couldn't even tell it was 10:00 PM and pitch black outside. Many have speculated what the origins are behind the songs. As fans we don't really know what the songs are truly about, so hearing straight from Danzig's mouth what "I Turned Into a Martian" was really about or how the infamous "Bullet" JFK art was created was truly a gift to any true fan.

Seeing this live took me back to the first time I heard the MISFITS as a kid, and how it was different from other punk bands. If you're not familiar with the Misfits, well you've been under a coffin far too long. They mixed the two things I love most: horror and music. This took me back to a time when everything was okay with the world and listening to your favorite band made you feel like you could do anything. Seeing them perform together live - something that will probably never happen again - made it all the more of a positive experience.

Overall, this was an amazing and a once in a lifetime event that I am very fortunate to have attended. Anyone that was there know exactly how heavy and intense it was. Everyone who had the means to make it but did not really missed out. This is your own problem. All who did not have the means, I am truly sorry that you could not make it to this historic event.

THE MISFITS/SLAYER CONFIRMED!!!

As I brought to your attention before, many of you were very stoked, and some even tried to prove me wrong of the rumor of ex-Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies drummer, legendary Dave Lombardo will in fact be joining the legendary horror punk band The Misfits as they reunite and headline this year's Riot Fest set for September 2nd and then again on September 16th in Chicago, Illinois.

The rest of The Misfits lineup will consist of Glenn Danzig (who hasn't played with the band since 83), Jerry Only on bass and Doyle on guitar.

Dave Lomabardo stated to Rolling Stone Magazine:

The Misfits created the horror punk attitude and had a massive influence on modern rock, punk and metal. It was an easy decision for me to join them for these monumental shows. I was honored to be asked, and am very excited to be playing with the band!

Danzig and Slayer did a few shows together back in '88 before the first Danzig album had even been released. It was then that Glenn and Dave first met. Glenn has been quoted as saying:

Dave is one of the best drummers around, and I can't wait to see him pounding Misfits songs live for these special shows.

The Misfits, the originators of the horror punk scene, and Slayer (FUCKING SLAYER), the almighty in the heavy metal world, joining members on one stage,...one word. LEGENDARY!

Will this grow into a full blown old is now new again band? Will there be new music and studio time? Well, with retirement not in the too far distant future for any of them, and these seeming to be the days of reunions, it's any mans guess. Would I like to see it happen? Could be interesting, but what I would really like to see is someone who is is going to Riot Fest and SEND ME A DAMN T-SHIRT 'CAUSE I CAN'T FUCKING GO!!!

When someone asks you, "Who is the best horror band?", who do you automatically think of (or, even better, who SHOULD you always automatically think of)? To me, that's an easy question to answer: hands down it is The Misfits - the original in your face horror punk band that started the wave of horror music as we know it today.
Originally fronted by legendary vocalist Glenn Danzig, who, after leaving The Misfits, went on to form the highly acclaimed Samhain. While lyrically was similar to The Misfits, was a darker and much gloomier sound. He later went solo and started Danzig. While all three acts were very similar, they were all also worlds apart yet all had huge followings and were very influential in the music world. After The Misfits original members split up, there've been a lot of harsh words towards each other and hard feelings over the years amongst the members - including court cases over copyright issues.

The Misfits originally formed in 1977, and 39 years later The Misfits are still kicking ass and it seems like a dream will come true. They said it would never happen but, the almighty The Misfits will be making a return the end of 2016 at Riot Fest headlining the show with all original members - or so it was claimed. The original members have rumored that they will be using renowned drummer and former member of legendary heavy metal thrash gods Slayer the one and only Dave Lombardo. Now Dave has been rumored to be the skin smasher filling in on drums during these live performances that are being held in September.

As of now Dave's name has not officially been announced. As a matter of fact, it's actually just hearsay and speculation because band members of The Misfits have been hinting around that he is who the drummer will be. So by the process of elimination by hints given by Danzig and Jerry Only, Dave's name has surfaced and is now in the limelight.

I have been a fan of both Slayer and The Misfits since I was a young teen and continue to be one to this day. Hell, I even sported the black wrist bands like Glenn for a while. So combining the two bands for me personally would be like a demonic musical orgasm! Although the styles of both bands are very different, putting the two together will be incredible, especially in a live performance.

Could this possibly be the new line up for The Misfits? Could there be a new studio album in the future with the return of the original members plus Lombardo? One can only dream.

It's doubtful that I will be lucky enough to attend Riot Fest and get to witness the reunion of The Misfits , but if any of you readers out there are able to and if you think I'm a halfway decent guy, then help me out and get me a fucking t-shirt!

I don't have a clue on the future of The Misfits or the possibly joining of Dave Lombardo on drums to the band, but I do promise that I will keep you guys updated as the events unfold !
