House of Tortured Souls Live

The Houses October Built and the recent follow up release, The Houses October Built 2, are two of my favorite films! Let’s face it. With the abundance of horror films being made either through Hollywood budgets or Indie fan-funded projects, there’s a shit ton of mediocre to bad horror being produced. Since October is the month for horror and scares and with Halloween just around the corner, the options for viewing are endless. During this season I try to stick with Halloween-themed films.
In 2014, I first viewed The Houses October Built. It instantly became part of my personal top five horror films! And, in keeping in with my Halloween-themed films, it’s about a group of friends who travel from haunt to haunt in search of the extreme. Now, I ask you: what can be more Halloween than haunts?
Then 2017 came, and the crew released the follow-up, The Houses October Built 2. This sequel answered questions that had left audiences pondering in the closing frames of the original, kept the viewer’s Halloween spirit engaged, and ended with an entirely new set of holy-shit-what-the-fuck questions.
After viewing The Houses October Built and launching House of Tortured Souls, I had been trying to get in touch with any or all staff for a written interview. However, once I tracked down the right people through social media, there were always scheduling conflicts. Time went on, and I had resigned myself to the fact that it wasn’t going to happen. Still, I proudly supported the films and helped out the best I could on social media by sharing their posts.
It was this past Thursday, October 19, 2017, at approximately 2:30 pm EST when I figured what the hell and sent an email to them in hopes of setting up an interview sometime within the next few years. With part 2 only having been out for a few weeks, I knew they would be busy, but I also figured why not give it a shot? Within an hour, I got a response asking if I was available that day. Long story short, within two hours, both writers/directors/stars of both The Houses October Built parts 1 and 2, Bobby Roe and Zack Andrews, were staring me in the face live through a House of Tortured Souls LIVE video podcast.
We had a great chat, and it was a thrill to have met them and an honor to have them on the show. The guys discuss the origins of the film, working together, haunts, and even dabble in what may be next! So join me as I bring you my afternoon with Bobby Roe and Zack Andrews of The Houses October Built!

COMING SOON: 10/31/16 (2017)

COMING SOON: 10/31/16 (2017)

By John Roisland
Red Letter Entertainment, Inc. brings you the directorial debut from Rocky Gray (composer of The Barn, Killing Floor 2),two time Grammy winning musician and former drummer for Evanescence.
A new horror anthology in the vein of V/H/S/ and Creepshow
brings an ensemble cast together to spin twisted tales of the macabre. The film is Executive Produced by P.J. Starks, creator of the critically acclaimed Volumes of Blood franchise.

Story line:
A video tape given to a group of teens by a sinister trick or treater turns Halloween night into a living nightmare.
The film stars Jordan Phipps, Greg Fallon, Samantha Anderson, Taylor Aulbach, Darius White, Micah Patterson, Kirby Gocke, Star McCann, and Alivea Lafavor.
So when can we expect too see the finished project? Good question! 10/31/16 is set to be released around August 2017.
When Rocky and I first met, i knew he was the drummer for Evanescence, I also knew he was a huge horror fan, it was because that, that i pursued Rocky to join the staff of House of Tortured Souls. And what an addition he has been, graphics for the website, logo images, and last but by no means least - the opening and closing music for our podcast House of Tortured Souls Live. All of which we have had many compliments over, and we thank you, Rocky!!
I was in awe of the work Rocky had been doing with scores and soundtracks, but when he first mentioned to me about him making his own film, the upcoming 10/31/16, I’m pretty sure my reply text to him was, “FUUUCK YEA!!!!! Keep me posted. I’d be honored to support and help you out any way I can!”
When Rocky told me he had sent me the trailer and press release for 10/31/16, I was thrilled and couldn't wait to get home and check it out ! As most of you know, I am a huge fan of horror anthologies, so when Rocky mentioned that's what his film was, I was super stoked!
Be sure to check out 10/31/16 online:
Keep your eyes on 10/31/16 and on Houseoftorturedsouls.com for updates on the film and keep your ears open to House of Tortured Souls Live for the podcast with Rocky Gray.
A horror fan living the dream, give 'em hell, Rocky!

HOUSE OF TORTURED SOULS LIVE: ROBERT LaSARDO

HOUSE OF TORTURED SOULS LIVE: ROBERT LaSARDO

By JohnRoisland
This week on House of Tortured Souls Live, Robert LaSardo guests on our Black Friday Special!

Hey boys and girls, demons and demonettes and horror fans across the land! Welcome to the House of Tortured Souls Live Thanksgiving Black Friday Special! Allen and I had a very special guest in the HoTS Live studio, Mr. Robert Lasardo! Robert is of course known by everyone as being the actor with the body suit of tattoos, well did you know that Robert also has over 120 acting titles to his credits. Tiles ranging from China Girl to Dee Snyder's Strange Land and from Nip/Tuck to The Human Centipede III and, most recently, Anarchy Parlor.
Robert talks remakes, special f/x, Elvis and Dee Snyder. We also discuss people as sheep in the entertainment industry and how people are labeled.

I (John) was lucky enough to have met Robert LaSardo at Scares That Care Charity Weekend in 2015. I had a business card for House of Tortured Souls but hadn't even launched the website yet. Robert took my card, told me he was filming out of country but was going to call when he got home... I figured the card was in the trash, and Robert was gone. I got a call at home one night as, sure enough, he made true on his word. Robert is one of the most sincere and passionate people I have ever met. The expression the strong silent type comes very close to being perfect when describing Robert LaSardo, and I absolutely love talking with him.

Now sit back and listen for the next hour or so as John Roisland and Allen Alberson bring you their Thanksgiving Black Friday Special! With that being said, we wish and hope everyone has and had a great and safe Turkey Day!
Don't forget - (209) 600-EVIL...call, leave us a message, anything you'd like to talk about. JUST CALL US!

We have a big show this week as John and Allen welcome writers and stars of THE NIGHT WATCHMEN, Ken Arnold and Dan Deluca and costars Donald Imm and Dan Franko. John and Allen go over news issues ranging from film remakes THE CROW to the most recent updates on film director Robert Eggers, who has signed on to remake horror classic Nosferatu.
House of Tortured Souls Live also makes mention of the upcoming KING KONG film Skull Island as well as the already in the works sequel to box office smash DON’T BREATHE.
We pay our respects to the huge loss of musician/poet Leonard Cohen. And, on the flip side of music, make mention of Slayer’s own, Kerry King as he is joining the horror convention circuit.

Allen also gives his very heart felt thoughts to actress Shelly Duvall as she makes a public cry out for medical help with many physical and mental issues she has been fighting with for years.

MOVIE REVIEW: Circus of the Dead (2014)

MOVIE REVIEW: Circus of the Dead (2014)

By John Roisland
In 2014, almost three years ago, native Texan, and downright great guy, Billy Pon, aka Bloody Bill, and long time friend Lee Ankrum, brought the world, Circus of the Dead. Once upon a time in the world, when you thought of clowns, you thought of children laughing, balloon animals, bright colorful makeup, and a red spongy nose. Well, Bill and Lee are taking you to another kind of circus.
We had the great pleasure of having Bloody Bill as a guest on our podcast show, House of Tortured Souls Live a few weeks ago. He and I spoke recently, and Bill sent me a screener for Circus of the Dead to review for him. I WAS THRILLED!
Circus of the Dead, starring Bill Oberst, Jr. (Criminal Minds, The Retrieval), plays Papa Corn, the leader of our violently, criminally insane clowns that are members of an actively traveling circus.
The story focus's around Donald Johnson played by Parrish Randal (Gut Instincts,Possum Walk) as he is taken hostage by the clowns after a home invasion where his wife (Chanel Ryan, Bad Kid Go To Hell) is brutally murdered and his two daughters are kid napped by the clowns that the family just enjoyed at the local circus, just the day before. Papa Corn and his crew torture and make Donald take witness to future violent crimes all while still in hopes of being freed and finding his daughters.
The film is very dark, twisted and depraved...all of which I like. Bill Oberst, Jr. as Papa Corn, was spot on. My god, I think the man was made for this role! He lures you in and makes you watch, like driving past a bad car accident, you have to look. His performance, even as a clown throughout the entire film, is very commanding. Clown makeup or not, you will take Papa Corn serious.
I have been fortunate to have met a rather large handful of actors, directors, and writers of the horror genre in the last few years. I have also become a supporter of the Indie scene. Billy Pon and Lee Ankrum are proud members of that community, and they should be very proud of Circus of the Dead. The film runs just over 140 minutes, and I loved every second of it.
After waiting and waiting, they have finally come to a trust worthy distribution for Circus of the Dead, and will be released VOD in the very near future. If you were wondering why it was made two years ago and is just now getting out there, that's why. And for that, I tip my hat to you gentlemen for holding true to your work.
Circus of the Dead, in my opinion, will become a cult classic that will live on for years. This is going to be one for me to add to my library for sure, ...shit man, just look at the movie poster, its badass. So do yourself a favor, when the opportunity arrives, go fucking watch Circus of the Dead! You wont regret it.
Oh yeah, and while you're waiting for the VOD release, fill up the family-truckster and head down to Texas by Halloween night for ole Bloody Bill's Haunt. Yup, Pon himself is a hauntrepreneur, with his very own haunt in Odessa, Texas. Or at least check him out at WWW.BLOODYBILL.COM.
"Silence is golden." -Papa Corn

HoTS LIVE Welcomes BJ McDonnell

This week the House of Tortured Souls crew of Lord Dixie, aka Allen, and John Roisland bring you another action packed episode. Our special guest is director and cinematographer BJ McDonnell. BJ is perhaps best know as the director of the horror film Hatchet 3, where he took over the reins from series creator Adam Green. BJ is also the director of a violent trilogy of videos for metal band Slayer, as well as being involved in some of the biggest Hollywood movies ever. Can you say Antman and Avengers 2, children?

John and Dixie will also bring you up to date on recent HotS activity. This includes the new Blair Witch movie and of course Rob Zombie’s 31, which was just released on VoD. Love him, hate him, or wish you were married to his wife, he is Rob Zombie and he makes his movies bloody. Plus find out if Lew Temple says, “Tits on a boar hog”. Pssst, he totally does.

House of Tortured Souls Live Welcomes Billy Pon

With Special Guest Billy Pon

By John Roisland, Stephanie Roisland, and Allen (Dixielord) Alberson

&npsp;

During the Billy Pon interview about a minute and a half of audio was garbled, and some bits lost. It was either cut the entire section, leave it or try and piece it together and possibly lose or misinterpret the questions and response so I decided to leave it as is. Apologies to Billy Pon.
