House of Forbidden Secrets

House of Forbidden Secrets is my first experience with a Todd Sheets film, but I assure you it won’t be my last. This is a film made for fanboys and girls, chocked full of Easter eggs and an incredible cast. I geeked the fuck out while watching and had so much fun. Fans of Olaf Ittenbach, The Exorcist and Troma will love this film. Lloyd Kaufman makes a cameo appearance as a drunken grandpa watching The Toxic Avenger with his grand-daughter, and if that wasn’t exciting enough Dyanne mother fucking Thorne (Ilsa She wolf of the SS) is in it!!! Her character is everything I was hoping it would be and she still looks fucking amazing in her 70’s.

The plot is a simple one we all know and love, a haunted house with a sordid past. At the beginning a séance is performed that unleashes an ancient evil at Shadow View Manor, an old manor turned into a business office. Jacob (Antwione Steele) a new security guard is on his first shift and just learning the ropes. Cassie (Nicole Santorella)  and Hannah (Michaela Paxton Tarbell) are holding a séance for a tv show and invite Jacob to join in. The séance goes awry, and soon menacing entities start wreaking havoc in the manor. No one can leave and as they struggle to escape they’re picked off one by one.

At the end we’re left with only Cassie and Jacob who are both sensitives. Cassie starts to get visions of the past and we learn that the manor was originally a seedy brothel ran by Gretta (Dyanne Thorne). One of the best customers of the brothel is the local priest Elias Solomon (Lew Temple) who gets one of the girls pregnant. Gretta blackmails him, threatening to tell everyone unless he pays 20,000. Elias promises to return in a couple days with the money. When he returns several days later he brings a bunch of thugs and it turns into a whore house massacre. Up until this point the kills have been spaced out and have lots of fun gore, but the finale is a blood bath that will give any gore fan a boner.

Besides the fact that it’s obviously low budget and there is some minor pacing problems (it drags a tad in places) this was a solid film. If you want a Hollywood blockbuster look elsewhere, true fans of the genre will love this and be delighted with all it has to offer.

Uneathed  Films will be releasing a Blu-ray on November the 13th you can pre-order here
