Live performance CD’s can, at times, be tedious to listen to especially if you are a long time fan of a band.  When you go back 22 years to listen to one of your favorite bands live early performances, you often think about how far they have progressed on a technical level and often lament line-up changes and cringe at the audio quality of said recording.  As anyone who knows me will tell you, I am a HUGE fan of Cradle Of Filth and have been since the beginning and I have to say that I am HIGHLY impressed with this release from Dynamo Concerts and F.R.E.T. Music!  The audio quality is quite excellent and if you close your eye while listening you could swear that you are standing in the audience at the show.  There are no glaring audio problems that you sometimes get while at a live show and you can make the argument that the quality is almost studio perfect. In fact, when comparing the live songs to their CD counterparts, there is barely a difference in the run times of the songs which is quite a rarity in itself.  The other nice addition to this release is the CD booklet that comes with it and tells the history of how Dynamo Open Air (it started first as a club that had a capacity of 120 people and became a free festival that eventually saw 30,000 people show up in 1992) got its start and how it grew to have such a huge following in the later years.  Great bands such as Satan, Jaguar, Raven, Mercyful Fate, Anvil, Slayer, Exodus, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Sepultura, Opeth and a host of many others all played at some point or another…

With this being the early years of Cradle Of Filth, the songs come from their first two CD’s, those being 1994’s The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh and 1996’s Dusk and Her Embrace.  For newer fans of the band, this CD is an excellent choice to listen to their earlier roots which are firmly planted in Black Metal where as their sound today is considered more Extreme Metal (semantics to say the least as I feel they encompass both genres quite nicely).  All six songs are top notch picks from their respective CD’s (3 from each) and that makes it extremely hard to pick my top 3 songs, but if you put a gun to my head I would say that Malice Through The Looking Glass (from Dusk and Her Embrace), The Forest Whispers My Name and To Eve The Art Of Witchcraft (both from The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh) are the most amazing sounding on this release.  But don’t take that to mean that the other songs are not as high quality as the three above.  Danni Filth absolutely shatters your soul with his epic screams and growls just as he does now and it certainly makes you appreciate his talents even more considering the length of time he has been doing it.  Again it has to be pointed out just how good this recording is as I have mentioned that many live metal releases just don’t hold a candle to the studio counterparts, but this is everything that true fans of Cradle Of Filth love about the band and this is certainly a fantastic release to break new fans into.  This release is certainly NOT a rehash or cash grab and should be looked at as a piece of historic Black/Extreme Metal history that fans should rush out to add to their collections!  Kudos to Dynamo Concerts and F.R.E.T. Music for this epic release!

This is a single disc release from Dynamo Concerts and F.R.E.T. Records and is available in most of your larger chain music stores.  I picked up my copy from FYE in my local mall but I have also recently seen it in places such as Target!  The CD is also available from most online CD retailers as well as Amazon and Ebay as well as
