Nicole Dambros get Revenge on behalf of LGBT community in new clip from ‘GROUPERS’

GLOBAL DIGITAL RELEASING has acquired the worldwide rights to writer / director Anderson Cowan’s feature film debut, “GROUPERS”.

The film centers around two all-American high school jocks Brad and Dylan (Peter Mayer-Klepchick and Cameron Duckett) who are out for a night on the town when they are approached by the beautiful and seductive Meg (Nicole Dambro) at a local bar.  Ready for what they hope will be a night to remember, the guys are subsequently kidnapped, drugged and awaken tied up face to face in an abandoned pool in the middle of nowhere. Absurdity and insanity ensue as we learn that Orin (Jesse Pudles), Meg’s overly flamboyant brother has been the target of Brad and Dylan’s homophobic bullying and that Meg is actually a grad student who plans to perform a psychological and somewhat sadistic experiment on them as part of her thesis, which poses the question, “is homosexuality a choice”.

In the following clip form Groupers, Nicole Dambros kidnaps the boys who have been making her brother’s life hell.

The Cinequest Film Festival referred to the film in its 2019 line up as “a rare, highly original, and super-charged dark comedy that will keep you guessing and contemplating the provocative, yet crucial themes at its essence”.

“This is an important film”, stated Global Digital Releasing President Joe Dain. “Homophobia has always been an issue in our society but with the current administration and the potential roll backs of LGBTQ protections in this country, it’s not only timely but Anderson effectively tackles the subject matter in a dark, humorous, yet thought provoking and entertaining way that we believe will resonate with audiences and we wanted to give it the opportunity to garner the attention we feel it deserves.”

Cast of Ru Paul Drag race brings The Rocky Horror Picture to life in San Antonio

Cast of Ru Paul Drag race brings The Rocky Horror Picture to life in San Antonio

If Halloween has given us anything it’s 31 days of so much horror. Throughout this month there have been parties, movie screenings, cartoons, seasonal candies, Halloween stuffed toys to even people going above and beyond dressing up as popular memes. However, the one thing that is just pure Halloween is The Rocky Horror picture show. Now if you have never seen it you are considered a “Virgin” Which isn’t a bad thing because for those who haven’t seen it watching it for the first time is almost a spiritual journey if you will. So, let’s breakdown Rocky Horror Picture show not the movie but the LIVE version featuring cast members from Ru Paul drag race. I had the pleasure of attending the live version for my second time so far. I’ve seen the movie countless times either for parties or just simple entertainment. It’s a classic none the less, but to see it LIVE to interact, dance along which was HIGHLY encouraged. There’s nothing in the world that can replace that feeling as if I’m watching it with friends who loved it just as much as I do. The event was held at the Woodlawn Point Church. Which was extremely cool for them to host the event especially for what the show was about. As I took my seat there was a small pre-show with our local drag show celebrity Tencha La Jefa warming up the crowd with her usual comedic routine. She is our Don Rickles of San Antonio. The show came on and what I loved about this version was that a live band performed on the side which made the event even better as if you’re watching a play AND a rock show. I would explain the plot for the film, but at this point to all horror fans they know it all too well. The cast was amazing with the Talented queens from various seasons. Laganja Estranja KILLED it as Dr. FrankenFurter. Previous actors and actresses have taken on the iconic role but Laganja added their own flair to it to where it’ll be hard to top. Tim Curry would be proud. Ginger Minj played the role of Janet belting out amazing vocal abilities which once again proves She deserves to be on the stage as well singing and performing because she is a talented comedian as well. Texas’ own Cynthia Lee Fontaine played Magenta and was amazing even towards the finale where her iconic outfit felt as if it was her own design.  Even Comedian Daniel Franzese who you’ll remember from Mean Girls did a really great Eddie adding his vocal tunes to the show which was amazing to see in a different light. Overall the show was by far one of the best productions I’ve seen in a long time. The cast stayed true to the script of the original as well as adding little improv lines and the main stars inconic lines and dance moves. Laganja doing the death drop as Frankenfurter, PRICELESS! Club promotor Rey Lopez has really out done himself this year with a great production and a great cast. When he’s not busying running his store Male B Wear he’s busy at work with the production (Rey Lopez Entertainment) of the show and other shows he goes all out for whether it’s a club show or a big event. I asked him about it and he told me, “This has been one of my biggest challenges, but with the help of a great team it all worked out” I couldn’t agree more! Truth be told the show was top notch and everything went well with no problems. The only downside of this event is that it’s only twice this month and that’s it. Onward to next year where it’ll be a different cast or maybe somebody from before. Either way I have to say if you’ve never seen Rocky Horror go see it LIVE while you have the chance and if you have seen it still go see it LIVE. The last performance of the year will be tomorrow on Halloween which is the perfect time. There’s a light over at the Frankenstein place, but Rey is keeping it brighter with an amazing cast and an amazing production. I would also like to say even though I couldn’t take flash photography or videos for the YOUTUBE page due to legal reasons out of my control I was able to get these production photos from the Photographer CJ Photography

Monikke Shame from Dragula Season 2 live in San Antonio

Monikke Shame from Dragula Season 2 live in San Antonio

I just got off work and headed down to the Webhouse to see a drag show. Not just any drag show, but Shawn Benet’s Madhouse. This was an event that I couldn’t afford to miss, Monikke Shame was headlining from Dragula season 2 and even though I missed the first part of the show from what I hear the first half amazing with the cast including Monikke using a stapler to staple tips to her body I told myself, “At least don’t miss the second half.” I do regret missing Miss Taint and Paradox Rei’s first half act. The neighborhood was quiet and dark it looked like something out of a horror movie no sounds or people. As I parked my car there were patrons coming in and out of the club. Smell of amazing food in the air provided by Webhouse which from what I been told have the best ribs in town as the song Bad Reputation by Joan Jett is playing. How appropriate. Walking into the club it was right when the first half ended D.J. Mr. Grim who is also the husband to Shawn Benet a power duo that has been working effortlessly together in the alternative drag scene together as I made my way in I was greeted by friendly faces and familiar performers I’ve seen numerous times c

hatting about or getting ready for the next performance. I immediately felt at home like all of Shawn’s shows. As stated Shawn has worked very hard to get where he is today from his very first performance to now hosting shows working with huge talent from Dragula season 1 and 2 and even working with his Haus being the first to bring Disasterina, Felony Dodger, and Monikkie Shame to Texas. Haus of Coven featuring Shawn Benet, Paradox Rei, The Lady Mystere Lopez, Nova Cain to newest member Miss Vanta Black. Shawn has made sure that every show is filled with something different, something cool and something for everyone. The vision his Haus has is: All drag is valid and that everyone should be themselves and

perform how they want to perform. I met him briefly as he was getting ready and he was able to say something quick: “My goal is to provide opportunites for performers who would normally be rejected from our cities drag community and to alter the perceptions of what drag is in this town” The second half began. Shawn came out doing a Zodiac killer theme. The theme for the evening was Masquerade as stated this isn’t your typical drag show. Imagine Gwar doing theater art showcases, but not so much blood or fake body parts flying around. Well that depends on who’s performing the night. The performers each bring something different to the stage showing off amazing make up, outfit and performances. The house was packed with some many people which is always best to show up early to make sure you get a good seat but with the venue itself it may not be huge but no matter where you are you’ll always see the show. Shawn does a great job not only bringing local talent but so many talented performers from around Texas showcasing their talents and making them feel at home especially the main events. Who Shawn and her husband treat as best friends showing them around the city and hanging out. There isn’t one person who stole the show but more so that everyone was amazing on stage whether it was (Britni Lebosabitch) doing their rendition of Closer by Nine Inch Nails with an assistant that the act became versatile of pain and pleasure to Twiggy Belladonna doing aerobatic splits where they’re fluid with their dance moves. Some performers I was watching for the first time such as Tessa Flowers from Houston who felt more like a headliner with their performance which got everyone hyped up for the headliner. Monikke Shame came out dancing, lip syncing to Lady Gaga throwing out fake pills of Xanax to the crowd. Coming out wearing one of her iconic mask. Imagine Leatherface doing drag performing to pop music. The crowd was cheering and hollering in support to this form of drag. Dragula may believe in horror/filth/glam but Shawn Benet believes in all drag is valid and if you’re looking to perform

with any look any style then try out. If you missed this show don’t miss their upcoming show with Erika Klash as well as their house shows and Voodoo.
