New Releases

After watching his first film Blessed are the children I immediately enjoyed the path that Chris Moore was going. When I heard about his second film, TRIGGERED I reached out to him and said, May I please see this movie as soon as possible not only to review but watch his progress into the horror industry grow. Upon watching the film, I was rest assured that Chris hasn’t lost his touch from his first film. The film Triggered like Blessed deals with topical issues that are relevant to still staying true to the 80’s vhs tapes you would see at the video store. Not the big budget 80’s horror movies but those small forgotten gems that when finally get a movie release the hardcore fans go nuts for. Triggered’s plot is: “Two teenagers fake an attack by a legendary serial killer for a little attention, but the plan backfires when this triggers the real killer to resurface and go after them.” Chris doesn’t waste time with panning shots of his town or even give us filler jokes that don’t apply to the scene. Given the title may turn some people off what with the cliché term used as an insult to someone. Don’t let that discourage you the film delivers promise with great acting, excellent score of yesteryear 80’s slashers. Perhaps the only downfall I can say about this film is that even though there’s great death scenes along with great editing of the deaths one can only imagine what if there was a little more in the budget to do over the top gore. However though perhaps that may take away from the film itself making it to be a “Dark comedy” when in reality Chris is bringing an interesting story with dialogue that runs smoothly along with rapport of the actors that keep you interested to where he reminds you this is still a horror movie all the way to the bloody finale  that didn’t disappoint with the big reveal of why this is happening. There are little Easter eggs of a Golden Girls reference, to even a name drop of David Cronenberg which you should be able to catch briefly. The film will be released early 2019 along with a few screenings in the UK. When given the chance go out and buy this film or rent it to avoid being Triggered from retailers who are sold out.

Film Review of Breathe the short film by Samuel Vainisi

Film Review of Breathe the short film by Samuel Vainisi

In the world of Indie films directors, writers, editors and everyone in between are popping up like crazy. In the beginning it was virtually impossible to do your own film or even get the backing to do so. Film was expensive and very tiring just to edit. Now with advance technologies and easier access to promote on social media platforms. Being an indie director isn’t too hard. Given you still have your issues to deal with but for the most part they are out there doing everything they can to make their work. Whether it’s a short film, teaser or in this case test work to learn the craft such as the topic of discussion the short film BREATHE by Samuel Vainisi. The film’s plot is: “A young girl struggles with her anxiety and insomnia throughout the night. As hallucinations begin to flood her mind, a decision must be made as each passing second becomes too overwhelming and she must remind herself to just… breathe.” The film does start off a bit slow but afterwards, I wanted more it grabs your attention with the score along with the anticipation of what’s next rest assure horror fans it does get bloody in the end. Now given this was the rough cut of the film that’s still being worked on. I told Samuel this is great and doesn’t need any more work. He is however the director so when it’s done it’ll be done, but it’s more so for technical stuff that he’s working on. Samuel is very humble about his work saying that his first films weren’t great but gave him the chance to do what he wanted. After watching his previous films Senses and Akrasia true they were a few things here and there that needed work, but these are very, very minor things. Overall, he has an eye for directing and the passion for it. He has helped out with numerous films before and just went from there making his own. He does have a store set up for purchases of his movie along with help on funding the future of his work which you can click here. If you get a chance check it out and if you’re able to buy the DVD from him even though it may be a small price now one day, you’ll be paying for his bigger films which will all be worth it.

Trailer Review: DIS the new movie from Unearthed Films coming this January-House of tortured Souls

Trailer Review: DIS the new movie from Unearthed Films coming this January-House of tortured Souls

When it comes to surprises Unearthed Films is no stranger to them. It was revealed this week that the film DIS (2017) will be released in Jan. The trailer which I saw blew me out of the water. The film has a feel of part indie art film to graphic twisted nightmare. The plot follows: an ex-soldier with a criminal past takes refuge in the woods. A demonic figure seeks the seed of killers and the blood of the damned to feed his mandrake garden. DIS is an infernal descent into the root of the mandrake legend and a man who wanders too close to that legend and the unnamable terror behind it. What you sow you will reap. The movie gives us interesting details but no real spoilers. Which is great because it’s best to walk in with no real idea of what to expect. I’m sure there will be gore, brutality, insanity with a story. The film stars Bill Orbest Jr. Who you might recognize from Circus of the Dead (2014) Death Camp (2018) and even Criminal Minds (2014) who is no stranger to horror. So, after the holidays are over the turkey has been devoured and the Christmas presents have been opened. Sit back and enjoy this film as we venture into the new year with a new film that will for sur be talked about for a while!

Flowers 2 is in production and you can help it be the final piece of the trilogy!

Flowers 2 is in production and you can help it be the final piece of the trilogy!

One of the cool things about Unearthed Films is the social interaction they have with the fanbase. Answering questions, chatting about their films. It’s hard to believe the macabre minds behind such hits such as Aztroz, Song of Solomon, Red Krokodil, Blood Shock to name a few are some of the nicest people on earth who actually give a damn about their fans. What I love the most is the campaigns they have to fund their movies. Not just simple perks of owning the movie, or an online thank you. They actually give out props and other cool items you can ONLY get from the campaigns. One person who comes to mind is Phil Stevens the hard-working master mind behind his Flowers trilogy. Lung (A nameless man suffers from grotesque hallucinations as he wanders a corpse-strewn city.) is the prequel, Flowers is the first film with the plot as follows Six dead women awaken in the house of their killer, only to find clues about their past lives and who they once were. They must accept their fate and move on or remain in the rotting house forever and now his final project for the set is Flowers 2 with the plot: witness the final days of the serial killer known as ‘THE EXILE‘ through the eyes of his victims which has been shooting since this summer. For those unfamiliar. The films are silent with no dialogue, but paint a gruesome, disturbing visual nightmare. I talked to Phil personally offering any insight any indication on what to expect.  The man as nice as he is didn’t want to spoil anything for the fans. Which I admire and appreciate. Let’s face it when the cook is making a special dish you enjoy the meal and don’t bother the chef as they work! All I can get is that it will be insane and one of this finest works. So, what can you do? Contribute to the project get amazing stuff for helping out! After this it’s all over he’ll do other films, but the Flowers storyline will be done with. As we watch these films blossomed its time to plant one more in the ground. For more information on helping out please click the link here. There’s still time to make Flowers 2 the film that will go down as one of the most intense over the top films to date.

MOVIE REVIEW: Old 37 (2015)

MOVIE REVIEW: Old 37 (2015)

Did Someone Call An Ambulance?
A Review of Old 37

By Machete Von Kill

Old 37 poster

Director: Alan Smithee; Writers: Paul Travers (Story), Paul Travers, and Joseph Landes (Screenplay); Stars: Kane Hodder, Bill Moseley, Brandi Cyrus; Genre: Horror, Slasher; Run time: 81 min.;Rated: NR; Language: English; Country: USA; Year: 2015

You've just been in a horrible car accident. You call for help and wait for the ambulance to arrive. You are cold, scared, and the next words you hear are, "Don't worry, I'm a paramedic." From anyone other than Darryl, these words would be a relief. It sucks to be you...

Darryl (Bill Moseley, The Devil's Rejects, Repo! The Genetic Opera) and his brother, Jon Roy (Kane Hodder, Hatchet, Friday the 13th Parts VII - X) work the back roads, in their father's old ambulance, intercepting 911 calls in an area with few emergency response personnel. Rather than provide assistance to the accident victims, the brothers conduct medical/torture experiments in their ER inside a junk yard. Throw in a group of shallow, rotten teenagers with murderous secrets of their own, a case of mistaken identity, revenge, and you have the makings of a great horror flick.

Throughout the film, the viewer learns more of the backstory of these two backwoods wanna be doctors, via flashback scenes. Abusive, murdering father, enabling mother...all leading to the birth of a creepy, sadistic, serial killer. And I'm not kidding when I say Darryl is a creepy bastard. He took over where his father left off, and man, did he raise the bar in being an asshole. This role, in my opinion, could only be played by Bill Moseley. Anyone else wouldn't have been believable and have been able to take it to the levels Moseley does. If you liked Moseley as Otis Firefly, you will enjoy him as Darryl. No, Darryl is NOT a rehash of Otis, they are just very similar in their intensity and cruelty.

While in the beginning Jon Roy seems to be an enthusiastic participants in the murders, as the movie progresses, we learn Jon Roy is another of Darryl's victims. Throughout the movie he endures verbal abuse and bullying from Darryl. It doesn't change the fact that he is a big beast of a man and ready to kill you. He is a man of few words and many violent actions, but still manages to gain the viewer's sympathy as flashback scenes continue. Another BRAVO to casting for this role. Kane Hodder is perfect! Intimidating, menacing, hulk of a guy...He's terrifying, yet still able to elicit sympathy from the viewer.

The kill scenes are brutal but not overly so. Just the right amount of gore combines with great acting (from the whole cast) and a great story. Don't think for even a second that it is tame. I legit gagged during a few scenes and it's pretty tough to make me do that while watching a movie. I also want to give props to the Old 37 production crew. From the sets to the cinematography, the film is a visual treat. It's dark and creepy, but not overdone. It's believable, and creepy as hell!

I don't want to give away anymore than I already have, but trust me, you should see this film. I can honestly say it is one of the best I have seen in a while. A big thank you to the cast and crew for not making me regret advance ordering this movie.

Final Verdict: 9.5 out of 10 deranged paramedics
