Story line:
A video tape given to a group of teens by a sinister trick or treater turns Halloween night into a living nightmare.
The film stars Jordan Phipps, Greg Fallon, Samantha Anderson, Taylor Aulbach, Darius White, Micah Patterson, Kirby Gocke, Star McCann, and Alivea Lafavor.
So when can we expect too see the finished project? Good question! 10/31/16 is set to be released around August 2017.
When Rocky and I first met, i knew he was the drummer for Evanescence, I also knew he was a huge horror fan, it was because that, that i pursued Rocky to join the staff of House of Tortured Souls. And what an addition he has been, graphics for the website, logo images, and last but by no means least – the opening and closing music for our podcast House of Tortured Souls Live. All of which we have had many compliments over, and we thank you, Rocky!!
I was in awe of the work Rocky had been doing with scores and soundtracks, but when he first mentioned to me about him making his own film, the upcoming 10/31/16, I’m pretty sure my reply text to him was, “FUUUCK YEA!!!!! Keep me posted. I’d be honored to support and help you out any way I can!”
When Rocky told me he had sent me the trailer and press release for 10/31/16, I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to get home and check it out ! As most of you know, I am a huge fan of horror anthologies, so when Rocky mentioned that’s what his film was, I was super stoked!
Be sure to check out 10/31/16 online:
Keep your eyes on 10/31/16 and on Houseoftorturedsouls.com for updates on the film and keep your ears open to House of Tortured Souls Live for the podcast with Rocky Gray.

DEADLIEST BREW: The Coffee Shop of Horrors

DEADLIEST BREW: The Coffee Shop of Horrors

By John Roisland

So you're doing the family thing. You've packed your bermuda shorts and your newest Harley Davidson t-shirt, threw the kids into the family truckster, and headed down I-95 to Disney and or Universal Studios. You've made it into Orlando, O-town, the wife is nagging, the kids are already screaming they're bored, and all you want to do is wake up or kill someone cause you just spent the last 11-13 hours behind the wheel for a family vacation! Well, last I checked, murdering someone IS still illegal, but there is a way to wake you up!

Head on over to The Coffee Shop of Horrors. If you're looking for a good cup of joe to start your day or even just calm you down from the road, this is the place! Located at 16937 Lakeside Dr, in Montverde, Florida, since 2007, The Coffee Shop of Horrors offers you nothing but the best and freshest coffees - always ground fresh per order - and a wide variety of flavors. But why shouldn't you just go to "FourBucks", uh, Starbucks? That's easy to answer: The Coffee Shop of Horrors isn't corporate, they're an independent business, locally owned and putting their all into their dream! They make the kind of coffee they would want to buy. Shop local applies to food and COFFEE, too!

CSoH-logo

Not only do these fine baristas offer you a wide variety of only the freshest flavors, they also offer you delicious pastries and other snacks to enjoy with your coffee. Still not sold on why to go here? Hmmm... Did I mention The Coffee Shop of Horrors is also a horror-based establishment? The name, taken from The Little Shop of Horrors, does not lie - the establishment is a horror fan's dream.

From horror-themed decor to t-shirts, they also bag and sell their own brand of flavored coffees and all with horror related names, such as Burial Grounds, a dark roast named in honor of Cemetery Prints, a horror-themed photographer (Sid Graves) from Fort Lauderdale. At certain times of the year, even their pastries are horror-themed, and who wouldn't like a dozen little wolfman cupcakes?

The atmosphere is comfortable, and there is plenty of space to unwind and relax. They even have a coffee table that looks like something out of a GWAR video. (I must have that table!) While you're there, be sure to check out the hand-crafted work from local artists/horror fans Freakshow Designs. Trust me when I say that you will be sorry if you miss out on their work!

COMING SOON: Fangoria Musick – The Horde Mixtape

musick

Growing up as a young horror fan, one of the first publications I remember seeing that covered the genre was, of course, Fangoria. After being around for all these years and still holding strong, they have expanded and have since opened a music department aptly named Fangoria Musick.

So when April Bedan, manager of Fangoria Musick emailed me and asked if I'd be interested in mentioning their upcoming release, I was honored.

Fangoria Musick held an open call for any interested horror themed musicians to send in the best they had. What they ended up with is going to shatter your soul!

Fangoria Musick - The Horde Mixtape Flyer

Fangoria Musick presents THE HORDE MIXTAPE. After a long list of submissions, Fangoria Musick narrowed it down to 11 very fortunate groups that I'm sure had to sell their soul and sign the deal with blood. Fangoria has said this album will cover all different genres of horror music, so whether its dark ominous or head banging thrash, I'm looking forward to it!

The musicians on THE HORDE MIXTAPE are as follows:

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow right20SIX HUNDRED

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow rightCEMETERY HIGH

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow rightSURGERY HEAD

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow rightKARDIAC

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow rightMOJAVE PHONE BOOTH

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow rightTHE CHOKE

Fangoria Musick - Red arrow rightBLOODSHOT

Artwork for the album cover was done by Corey Jennings of KARDIAC who is also signed to the Fangoria Musick label and who also produced and edited THE MIXTAPE video promo. Obviously a busy guy!

Set to release on July 29, 2016, Digital Downloads will be available at FANGORIA.com, while physical copies will be available at FangoriaMusick.bigcartel.com.

I'm sure this release is going to be one to add to your personal library. I, for one, cant wait to get my hands on a copy.

So stay true to the horror genre, support Fangoria and Fangoria Muisck, both online and on their Facebook and Twitter social pages. And don't forget to order your copy of THE HORDE MIXTAPE or you'll suffer eternally!

Brian Dunn’s ALTER-EGO-DEZINES

Brian Dunn’s ALTER-EGO-DEZINES

By John Roisland

I first met Brian Dunn last year in 2015 in Richmond, VA, at The Scares That Care Charity Weekend Event. I'm a state rep for STC and was a volunteer at the convention. Upon making rounds, saying hello to the vendors and so forth, I came across a young man with a very serious look on his face who was standing in front of an Lazy Susan and sculpting. I didn't want to break his concentration, so I handed my business card to the gentleman who was with him and just watched in amazement.

1413073054

Brian Dunn is creator/artist/sculptor and owner of ALTER-EGO-DEZINES. Brian is a sculptor who creates not only iconic and well known designs but creates amazing objects of art with his own creativity, imagination, and ideas hiding in the back of his mind. Brian started at a very young age and was influenced by horror movies and Halloween masks. Moving forward through the years, he studied many other artists' styles until he mastered his own.

2619341_orig

Brian does do commission pieces as well as his own creative work. I must admit that watching him, or any other artist, reproduce the image of a known work is really cool. But when they offer you their own original work (especially when it's so creative and really brings a life of its own to the world as Brian's does), it's a mind blowing experience. The sculpting alone will sell you on his work, but when he puts his final air-brushing details to a piece it's absolutely amazing!

The young artist hails from the Philadelphia area and can be found vending at many conventions on the East Coast, as well as some in the Midwest. I most recently ran into Brian when he was set up as a live artist /vendor at Monster Mania in New Jersey this past March. Brian and I spoke for a few moments and he said the show was going pretty good for him, and apparently it was as I was quickly pushed out of the way by other onlookers who were all taken by the work of Brian Dunn and ALTER-EGO-DEZINES.

John Roisland on Deadworld Zombie Sodas

John Roisland on Deadworld Zombie Sodas

By John Roisland

In need of a change from cola? Tired of doing the Dew? Do yourself a favor and check out Deadworld Zombie Soda. Coming to you from Caprice Brands in Livonia, MI, and manufactured by Intrastate Distributors in Detroit, MI, these mad soda scientists have created a delicious monster (several, actually). The kind hearts that they are sent me a care package of a few of their flavors for me to sample, and they are FUCKING AMAZING! Sure, every major soda brand has an orange, a root beer, and a grape, but not like these tasty treats.

Zombie soda selection

A small sample of Deadworld Zombie sodas.

In addition to the standard soda flavors, Deadworld Zombie Soda offers an expansive and creative menu with flavors such as:

Black Cherry

Vanilla Root Beer

Vanilla Cream

Green Apple

Cotton Candy

And those are just a few of the delicious options Deadworld offers.

So, I made a little video of the sampling (it's also on our House of Tortured Souls YouTube page).

Keep an eye out for Deadworld Zombie Soda, as they are ripping up the convention circuit where you can try samples and purchase soda directly from them!! Find them on their homepage, on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Contact them, place your order, and tell Janelle that Ii said, "Hello!"

Trust me when I say that you will NOT be let down by their product!

Oh, I haven't tried it yet, but keep an eye out for the new Deadworld Zombie potato chips brought to you by Caprice Brands and manufactured by premier chip maker Better Made Potato Chips in Detroit, MI. If they are half as good as the sodas, you'll still be thrilled.

COMING SOON: The Night Watchmen

COMING SOON: The Night Watchmen

By John Roisland

12802836_784380384996497_3877462019170835888_n

Winter of 2015, actually for my birthday, I was fortunate enough to spend the day on the set of highly awaited film The Night Watchmen.

The story follows the eponymous night watchmen who, during their shift one night, receive a package that was delivered to the wrong location. This wasn't just your usual parcel - no gift to little Bobby from Grandma, no special free shipping on a DVD copy of The Hamiltons from amazon.com... This was a coffin holding a supreme vampire brought back take over the world! And who's there to defend us all from this demonic take over from the undead? The Night Watchmen.

(Warning: Video contains nudity.)

The film is a horror comedy that even while on the set had the crew cracking up during many lines. The film is totally unique but has the feel of Evil Dead meets John Carpenter. It has dark, gory horror with just the right amount of tongue in cheek comedy to make this a perfect fit. The film is packed with action, blood, vampires, dead people ... and clowns? Yes, even clowns.

As I mentioned, I was fortunate enough to spend the day with the cast and crew and was taken in by our three fearless watchmen themselves and stars of the film - Ken Arnold, Dan Deluca and Kevin Jiggetits. Everyone was awesome, and I was in awe of everything I was being allowed to observe.  The film was partially filmed in Annapolis, Maryland at an old newspaper press factory, and it was the perfect setting! Guys, thank you for taking the time. That was a birthday that could never be out done!

IMG_2188

The Night Watchmen and yours truly.

Hanging around with Arnold, Deluca, and Jiggetts is an ear to ear grin experience. The three of them are much like brothers...in a Three Stooges way. Fun loving, but always professional.

The film was written by Ken Arnold and Dan Deluca, and has been directed by Mitchell Altieri, who brought us The Hamiltons and The Violent Kind.

11034191_10152742232264716_5772456727176787986_n

The film also costars James Remar (Dexter), Rain Pryor (Rude Awakening), and Tiffany Shepis (Exit to Hell), and features the special f/x make-up artistry of RJ Haddy. There sadly is no release date for the film as of yet, but soon as House of Tortured Souls knows, you'll know! Until then, support The Night Watchmen by liking their Facebook page, and prepare to hear those magical words - Lets go kill dead people!

Keep It Evil.

A WORD FROM PINHEAD HIMSELF : DOUG BRADLEY

A WORD FROM PINHEAD HIMSELF : DOUG BRADLEY

untitled

By  John Roisland

As per the ongoing discussion of the Hellraiser saga, Doug Bradley, best known as Pinhead to the world, posted this yesterday to the public on Facebook, February 17, 2016 . Here's what he had to say:

"Ladies, Gentlemen and Others,

I gather word is beginning to spread about the new Hellraiser movie which is, apparently, already shooting.
First, a point of clarification. This is the first time I have said anything about this. Anything else you have heard me say about any proposed Hellraiser film refers to the constantly rumored remake. And, for the record, I still know nothing about that.

First I heard about this new film was around Christmas in a phone call from Gary Tunnicliffe, who was my make-up artist on Bloodline through Hellworld. Gary, you may recall, also wrote the screenplay for Revelations. He has written and is directing this new effort. I can also assert, contrary to some rumours I've already seen, that Clive Barker is not involved with this in any way, shape or form.

Gary said he would send me a copy of the script when he had completed a second draft, but before I could be allowed to set eyes on the precious document, I was required to sign a gagging order. This was a three page document preventing me from talking about the script 'in restrooms', 'on elevators', 'in restaurants' or 'in cellular telephone conversations which may be overheard'. There was also dark reference to 'people talking out of turn at conventions'. I read this thing in disbelief, and informed Gary I would not be signing it.

And that's that. Clearly, I am deemed too much of a security risk to be allowed to read a Hellraiser script. People are starving to death in Syria and they're worried about me talking about a Hellraiser movie? Get a fucking grip. Can you say 'sense of proportion'?

Anyway, story short: a new movie is happening and I have nothing do with it. I was unable to make a decision about it because I was not allowed to read the script, unlike Revelations where I made a conscious decision not to do the movie based on the motives for making it and the poor quality of the script.

And that's everything."

Peace and Pain
Doug

This is what Doug posted openly yesterday, and personally speaking , I support him 100% , and most certainly don't have much hope for the series without him.

Keep It Evil.

The Walking Dead Season 6 Returns Sunday!

The Walking Dead Season 6 Returns Sunday!

The Walking Dead
Season 6 Begins October 11, 2015

By Nicole Robinson

Rick, Carol and DarylThe excitement is building as viewers wait for The Walking Dead to return this Sunday to AMC for its sixth season after a very long summer for fans. The premiere of the season 6 trailer at this year’s San Diego Comic Con panel left viewers on the edge of their seats. Many are curious how the high adrenaline zombie drama will play out after last season’s cliffhanger. That ending made the summer so hard for fans they had to provide a spin off show to get them through it.

*****Caution: Spoilers Ahead.
Read At Your Own Risk*****

After the intense season finale "Conquer", we left our favorite sheriff turned anti-hero Rick Grimes played, by English actor Andrew Lincoln, who had just come face to face with his past in the form of fan favorite Morgan, marking the return of actor Lennie James. Last time Morgan and Rick came face to face in the season 3 episode "Clear", Rick found Morgan, alone, with an arsenal of weapons.

Walker 2

Robert Kirkman, the driving creative force behind The Walking Dead universe, has stated the reunion “will be the spine of season 6”. Does this mean fans should be prepared for a showdown between Rick and Morgan? Or will we see these two combine forces to lead the Alexandria Safe Zone during what is sure to be an action packed season? It seems at the forefront of this season will be the inevitable conflict between these two characters and the effect it will have on the residents of the safe zone.

Last season and the later end of season 4 showed leader Rick Grimes move to sheer brutality to stay alive and protect his family. From ripping Joe's throat out to save Carl, Michonne, and Daryl to killing Pete without a second thought, Rick has evolved into a fearless leader willing to do whatever it takes to survive. Season 6 brings something more than survival. Rick will be fighting for his home and he will defend it at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within.

Scenes of a large herd at the gates of the Alexandria Safe Zone shown during the trailer lead us to believe that the new home of Rick and friends will be invaded. Considering the "No one is safe" theme behind the show along with the new found abundance of new characters to kill off, the possibilities are endless. This also brings in a new factor: characters are now replaceable.

New characters Denise, Heath and CarterWith the ability to now introduce new characters in the form of Alexandria Safe Zone residents, the “No one is safe” theme could very well find its way into the group. Last season’s death count was rather disappointing aside from the death of Emily Kinney’s Beth, which managed to divide viewers. Who were either happy she finally stopped singing or angry that Daryl’s heart was broken, and spawning petitions to bring her back, even though she was shot in the head. This could mean that we are in store for some gruesome deaths this season and possibly of characters that have been with us since the beginning. There is a chance could be the season that rioting begins...

The trailer spoiled a new character coming to the series in the form of Heath, played by actor Corey Hawkins, who recently played Dr. Dre in NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. A well-known character from The Walking Dead comic (YES, there is a comic), Heath is a Washington D.C. survivor who goes on supply runs with his best friend Scott (who could be the other new character for Season 6). A familiar face found in the trailer was that of Ethan Embry, known for his role in films such as Empire Records and Can’t Hardly Wait, who will be playing Carter, according to showrunner Scott Gimple. Not much is known about the character or the role he will play in the Alexandria Safe Zone but it exciting none the less to see how he will fit in with Rick and friends is the upcoming episodes. Other characters that have recently been announced include, Paul “Jesus” Monroe, played by Tom Payne, and Dr. Denise Cloyd, played by Merrit Weaver, as well as a casting call for a brutal psychopath who is narcissistic, egotistical, quick to braggadocio and anger, his own skin is his principal concern... Hmmmm... should we worry?

WalkerSeason 6 is expected to pick up very soon after the events of the season 5 finale, no doubt showing viewers how strong personalities with a will to survive will mix inside the walls of the Alexandria Safe Zone. This will be a crazy and intense season for fans with lots of surprising events coming to shake up Rick and his crew. Tune in this Sunday at 9 PM EST on AMC to watch the 90 minute premiere of season 6 of The Walking Dead followed by our resident therapist Chris Hardwick for the season premiere of The Talking Dead immediately after the show.
